New Toy for Polishing

Hey everyone,

I have to share with you the new toy I got today and put to good use. To start off with I'll tell you that I have never detailed a car before and after today I am not sure I would want to do it on a consistent basis! Anyway, I was looking at the cost a detailing and decided I'd try it myself but I did not want to spend a ton of money. So I went to everyone's favorite store, the big W, and picked up the Meguiar's G3500 DA PowerSystem Tool. It's an attachment that hooks up to your drill. 6 hours later, here's the result. My swirls are gone. It took a wash, a layer of compound, a layer of polish, another wash, a wax, windows, tires, and rims. Not bad for $60 plus another $20 for the extra pads. Hitting the wife's Odyssey tomorrow!

Nice job -- looking good. You'll get hooked soon on detailing and end up buying the Porter Cable.

Nice detailing job!

It's also a great stress reliever as well for me! Kudos to you for trying something yourself - with good results it will become addicting to have a spotless polished car.

Close-up

A little cropping. Yeah, it was sort of relaxing. Had a little music going, and a beer. Once I got beyond the fear of messing up my paint it wasn't too bad.

Looks really good , I use a Griot's DA and once you use one you're hooked!

BTW you didn't mention anything about claying the finish.. If you didn't clay try it next time, IMO it makes a big different in the end results.

Actually planning to do the wife's SUV today, if time permits..

Looks great!

I thought about getting the Meg DA Power System for some small and tight areas but the drill I have is too weak for paint correction.

Meguire's recommends your drill to be capable of 1500 to 2500 rpm range.
