New car waxes

i bought a new Accord Sport from the dealer and they keep telling me they did not wax the car. They tried to get me to buy an expensive wax program, $600, that they said I would never have to wax again. I did not purchase this. They say it was not waxed although the water beads after a wash or rain storm and it does shine. Are they lying to me? Should I wax it anyway?

Dhiren314 09-03-2018 04:55 PM

Good job on not buying that false claim of a wax program, you will eventually have to wax it even if you bought it. My opinion on your situation would be if its still beading then the did detail it they just lied to sell the product or the car still has its original paint sealant. After 3-5 washes it will probably stop beading and thats when I say wax or use a sealant, whichever you prefer.

Really great answer Dhiren314

Just a little added info if you plan on keeping this car for long and want it to be kept looking good, I’d say splurge for a ceramic coating because the car is new so it’ll be cheaper as they won’t have to do as much correction.

90foxnotch 09-11-2018 08:41 AM

^What this guy said. I use to work for dealers and what they were trying to sell you is not that great of a product at all. I like the ceramic coating idea and this is the time to do it. If not it is not the end of the world, Just be sure to wash your car by hand the "right" way or to go to a touchless car wash. Avoid the auto car washes with the spinning brushes, they can ruin your paint.

Auto washes are useless you’re better off getting your garden hose and a bucket of soap. I’d be iffy on touchless car washes because they do not get out as much as doing it yourself would.

.....Ehhhh Ill disagree highly, The newer touchless car washes work really well, Use them often on my wife's Edge, I do agree a hand wash is the best though. When its zero degrees in a Ohio winter it's a great option to have

huh I only really use touchless car washes for maintenance washes when I don’t have time to do it myself. If I gotta wax or do anything I’d much rather do it myself.
I don’t get that salt or any bad winter in SoCal, only deathly amounts of heat

I have become a fanmof McGuires Advanced liquid. Takes about 15 minutes to apply and wipe off. Looks super shiny at the end. No worries about black plastic trim as there is no white residue left behind.

I got the paste version of the ultimate wax, and it takes a while to apply and off it but it works well.

Over 15 years for me.
I've tried flavors of the month and always go back to Zaino.

I haven't tried the ceramic stuff and don't plan to.

I lived in NJ and just moved to SC. I had a 69 Corvette show car and Sal ( is in Jersey) had Corvettes and was a guest of my Corvette club many years ago. I met him and talked on the phone with him many times years ago but not lately. Nice guy. A great product he kept making better. I really only use his paint products. I love his ZCS.

Fabvsix 11-12-2018 06:18 PM

Very cool Colt.... I've spoken with him several times years back.... he was blown away at my results of using Z5 & Z6 with my orbital buffer and how nice my black RL came out..... I only use his paint products too !!!

ericwudi0830 11-13-2018 06:42 PM

Gonna try the Zaino myself....

Wax technique question for the detailers.

Do you mask off all the non painoed surfaces or are you simply using hand eye coordination to stay withing the painted areas? In previous cars, I'd hate it when I went over vinyl exterior parts and it'd leave a white stain from the waxing. Do the Acura non painted exterior parts stain like my previous Hondas?

Donn0128 12-09-2018 11:34 AM

there are several non wax products that do not leave white streaks. McGiires Ultimate is one of them. Easy on, easy off, leaves an oitstanding shine.

this man is completely correct. It’s a great product to use if you haven’t gotten some collinite 915 or Other waxes. But for the most part i try my hardest not to get it and if I do I instantly remove it

C25A1guy 12-18-2018 01:18 AM

Collinite makes some great waxes, however in the climate I'm in (So. Cal), waxes just don't hold up very well long term. On cars I do go with the wax route, I usually stack Collinite 845 or Chemical Guys 5050 (on show cars) on top of Jescar Powerlock Plus sealant.

Every spring, do an orbital polish then load up with 4 coats of carnauba paste, wax on wax off Daniel son. All my cars look younger than Tom Cruise

So, this thread is currently only a year old; it's been resurrected several times.

I have a 2014 RDX with more rock chips than I thought. I am going to touch them up -- they show white rather than metal, so I think touch-up is appropriate. After the touch-up/clear is cured, I want to clay and protect the paint. I would like to hear from some of the older car guys about their recommendations.

I myself have limited endurance, and I am not going to last more than a few years, so I don't necessarily need a product that will still look awesome in 20 years! When I bought a 2001 Odyssey new, I used Zaino products for a long time; I used other products on my 2004 Accord V6 coupe, but I bought it used in 2008 and the paint was never going to keep looking new. For the last 4 years or so, it has shed its clearcoat. Friday I traded it for the RDX; that paint looks pretty good, but as I said, has more rock chips than I care for. How about some advice and suggestions?

My paint on my 2006 Accord looks mint. I just hit it with Meg's Synthetic Spray wax as a wax n dry, but I plan to correct/coat it in the coming months.

I do have a PPF covered by a vinyl hood bra.

90foxnotch 08-17-2020 08:20 AM

Kelsen, can you take a picture of the rock chips to see how bad it is?

justnspace 08-17-2020 10:50 AM

Recently (last month) detailed two of my rides! washed, clayed, paint corrected, ceramic coated!

why did I wait this long to ceramic coat!?!!?!??!
awesome results!

If this system will let me attach, then I can.

They all seem pretty similar, in that they are not down to the metal. I am hoping that I can nip this problem in the bud.

unless you want to fill every single chip with touch up paint......wait till it gets super bad then repaint the whole bumper...
to me; not worth touching up with what seems to be millions of chips.

Around here in Houston, to repaint a front bumper is around $250.
as You can see in my photo, my garage has caught my front bumper... and is pitted from millions of rocks hitting it. not worth it to me to fill every single chip with touch up paint..... rather wait to get it painted.
