My floor mats/trunk smells
Had my car detailed Monday. Looks effing beautiful. Left the windows open overnight Monday and part of the day Tuesday. Tuesday at Noon, everything is perfect. I close up the windows and go into the office. Return to the car at 5pm and it smells like old wet carpet. The very high humidity yesterday didn't help.
Took the floor mats out when I got home and dried as best I could. They're airing out all day today (Out of the car). Now the interior of the car is fine, but the trunk is shot.
Poured baking soda/corn starch in the trunk last night, dried, vacuumed, febreezed, and the trunk is wide open in the sun now. Still smells, but will stay wide open in the sun for the next 5 hours.
Any magical cleaning products for carpet smell that I can use on the trunk? Am I going to have to ask the detailer to hit the trunk again with his shampoo/vacuum?

Moved thread to the Wash and Wax section where perhaps you'll get more help. Hope you can take care of the smell.

Why is it wet? Did it rain while you had the windows open? Did the detailers do something? I understand you just want to get it dried out and smelling fresh, but you need to determine the cause.

Why is it wet? Humidity wouldn't do this, sounds like rain?

No rain. Carpets shampooed and wet-vac'd by detailer. Car left with windows open overnight in garage.
Next day, I assume all is good and dry by now. I go to work and leave the car in the heat/humidity, windows CLOSED, for approx 5 hours. Come back to the car after work and it smells like old, wet carpets. I touch the carpets and they're still wet. Maybe I just didn't realize they were still wet that morning....When I said in my original post "Tuesday at Noon, everything is perfect.", I should have said "Tuesday at Noon, there is no smell, and I assume everything is perfect".
Windows and trunk left open overnight last night, and 6 hours so far today. Smell is nearly gone from interior carpets. Not really gone from trunk. Not really gone from floor mats. I can't imagine mold has grown so quick. I sprayed the trunk with lysol and it's still airing out in the sun now.
Detailer was shocked when I called and told him this. Said "well shampooing must have brought up an old stain or something and that's what you're smelling". Come on....that sounds like BS to me.

If you have a wet/dry vacuum, hit them with that to pull as much of the liquid out as you can. I picked up a small 2.5gallon unit from Home Depot for ~$50 that works great.
You gotta get all of the liquid out before the sun will have a chance of drying everything out.
As far as his excuse, I'm skeptical but will believe him until any other pro detailers chime in. It sounds like he used too much water/solution and didn't get it all back out. Unless you have some sort of attachment to this particular detail shop, I would never use them again and I would make sure the manager/owner knew why.
This is why I do my own detailing!
