My Detailing Arsenal

Having worked for a Land Rover dealer that is incredibly anal about black cars, I have learned quite a bit about proper paint car. Direct drive buffers are really quite evil, it's where you get all the buffer burn people hate. Anyway, after two 300-mile trips up to Tacoma, Washington, I have nearly completed my arsenal of detailing equipment from Griot's Garage. Their random orbital buffer is the best buffer money can buy; no burning and its easy to change the foam pads.

Here are some photos:

The shelf:

The good stuff; car wash, tire dressing, and undercarriage spray for making wheel well liners look sharp!

The buffer box, the four polishes, wax, and the clay bar kit.

And of course, the two microfiber wash mitts and the microfiber drying towel. These mitts are amazing at keeping swirls out of the NBP.

Griots makes a good product. Im not sure who manufacturers it for them, ir was just a little pricey last time I was at the website...
Show us some closeups of what Griots products have done for you, as well as your techniques used to maintain black. Im interested to hear what you have learned form that LR...
Whats on that second shelf!!??

How do you like the under carriage spray? I've been looking at that for some time now. I love Griots large spray bottles! There wheel cleaner is the best I've used. I have their organizer bag which is awesome for carrying everything to the car wash:

I have the Chenille Loop MF mitts, which like the dreadlock mitts, become real heavy when used for washing. They just hold a ton of water...........

griots has mail order, you dont have to make trips up there to buy the stuff....

their machine is not the best money can buy, but it is a fine machine....its equal to the udm, pc, and the g110 from meguiars...but its not the best money can buy....

none of their products are superior to some of the other stuff thats out their, but again, then have very fine products, just over priced for sure....

ps, why the old mans car....

Here are some photos of the black before and after....

Before; Swirls...

After; Much Better... It's interesting that after polishing and waxing the blue flake in the Nighthawk Black seems to be less. It's a very interesting color; kind of a black/blue/gray.

And the car in its black glory!

I strongly disagree with the above statement

A rotary will amp up the gloss to levels not attainable by a DA

Sure, in the wrong hands a rotary can burn the paint and leave buffer trails... but that is where practice/care/commen sense comes into the equation
