mothers phases

I went to pep boys the other day to get some stuff and i saw Mother's products for car washing, there was bottles for Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3. Now do you really need all this to get a really bright wet shine to your car? Because right now im just using the mother's carnauba wax and the QD.

Mother's 3-step seems to be the same as the Meguiar's Deep Crystal 3-step (probably the same price too).

Step 1- Paint Cleaner (prep)- You can skip this step if you ended up Claying the car. Claying will actually yield better results.

Step 2- Glaze (Polish) this step is the one that creates the "gloss" that you are looking for. You can do this twice for better results (to ensure even coverage). The only thing about applying and removing polish is that you need to have a good supply of towels 'coz the polish clogs them up easily. If you have a machine buffer, an MF bonnet will give you a better shine.

Step 3- Carnauba wax will provide some layer of protection on top of the polish to "lock-in" that shine that you just worked so hard on. Just make sure you do this right after the polishing step since the finish has no protection and the glaze will come off after a few washes (or exposure to rain) so you end up back to re-polishing again.

You can repeat 2 and 3 every few weeks after the Carnauba wears off. Just be warned that if you use a Carnauba "Cleaner" wax instead of the actual Step 3 product, you will negate Step 2, since the cleaner wax will remove all the polish that you just built up on the finish.

Just remember that this IS a lot of work. You just might get the same results or better with Claying and then applying a "modern" product like NXT to replace Steps 2 and 3.

The Carnauba wax that you currently use is OK provided that it is a "Cleaner Wax". Pure Carnauba should actually be applied to a polished finish (like Step 2). QD or liquid wax sprays are OK in between coats but should not replace regular waxing/ polishing.
