Magnet on Paint??

Ok, so I am going out to Houston tomorrow and would like to bring my CB with me for an added protection against the wonderful TX troopers. Anyways, the antenna that I have has a magnet base that is supposed to be put on the car. I am to death about putting this thing on my paint. So, what do you detail gurus have to say about this? Will it severly mess up the finish? Should I even consider using it?

What do y'all have to say?

Well it says that it has to be grounded, and the ground on the antenna is the magnetic base. Plus, for better reception, it has to go on the outside. So, that leaves me with no other option than to put it on the paint.

So you think that it will be ok?

well I know people with these antennas and yes they have scratches on their roofs from the antenna. My advice would be to skip the CB and just take it easy on the gas .

Go to a local sign shop and see if you can get a square/round piece of clear vinyl for protection.

If you use a gasket that's too thick, the magnet might not hold the antenna down hard enough any longer....

I know you already left, but next time you make the trip don't even bother. If you take 71 it really isn't a major trucking route so it won't prevent jack. Once you hit I-10 then you might want it but a good radar will be all you need, because you can haul ass on this section of road. If you go 290 you have more trucks and more speed traps in my opinion and might want to play around, but I never relied on mine on the truck to save me from the "super troopers". I take 71 all the time living in Katy and haven't had a problem.

As far as the whole paint thing with a magnet is another story...I wouldn't, too much vibration.
