Learning how to detail
I would like to know all the proper ways of detailing cars. I'm signed up for the meguiars detailing seminar they are having. Are there any other ways, besides reading up online? Are there any detailers out there who wouldnt mind a "lending hand" in exchange for some tutoring?
I'm located in san fernando valley and have a decent amount of basic experience, but I wouldnt mind anyone who would offer some type of part time internship, even if its on the weekends only. I have an open shedule for the most part of the week as well.

LMAO.....shit I'll sign up too and provide beer! I suck ass man....though I'm going to get a clay bar and get to work , before it gets too cold out here in So. Cal. I have never used a clay bar but everyone tells me to use that...I personally think my paint has bit the dust....

Oh search and u shall find....well the first stickied thread on the wash and wax will give you all the advice that you need...I'm going to run to Autozone and get OTC stuff. ie Clay bar, prewax, and wax. I have some PB coming in the mail, but I want to clean up the car a little before I use some of the good stuff....lol...
I've been around a little while but don't really post much....

You can still come to almost every Saturday at Meguiar to learn/ fine tune your technique if you want. The only thing is that if that specific car club still have available seat for non-car club to come. Or you can wait until around April so Meguiar will re-open Wed's night class where everyone can come and ask/learn specific question related to your car's paint problem.

hey aznbo...you're local...I'll hire you to take care of my car for me ;-) lol
I should probably just take the class...I need to stop trying to avoid stuff I don't know well just because no one around me has a clue on how to do it

Yesterday, I went at it full force. She looks good, I have never seen her looks so good actually. But then again never put that much work into paint before....lol..Oh and I used the cheap stuff from Autozone because I didn't know exactly what to get from Zaino or Pb. I'm also across the country so all car products will be tossed if not used before I leave. So what i did so far was...
1. Wash twice
2. Clay bar
3. Cleaner Wax
4. Polish
I know, I'm missing something because I didn't remove the nasty blemishes I set out or wanted to remove in the first place. I think someone left bird shit cook and cook on the paint...oh and my front end is done, bumper and hood is w/ rock chips...they redid the 30 mile stretch of road into post

The following is a post from another thread I replied to about the process:

1. Wash - use a soap with lubricity to wash the surface of the vehicle to remove any dirt, road debris and contaminants.
2. Clay - a clay bar will remove imbedded contaminants from the paint surface creating a smooth and clean surface.
3. Polish - a creamy, liquidy substance with diminishing abrasives that will correct surface defects such as swirls, minor scratching and oxidation. Will also increase gloss and reflectivity of the paint and will provide a sterile surface for a sealant to bond.
4. Seal - the last step is a sacrificial layer to protect the paint. Recommend using a polymer for durability and longevity.
