I never let anyone wash my car.

I never let anyone wash my car. I always do it myself. However, the other day I was preparing to take my 5th graders on a retreat for two days in the San Bernardino Mountains. It rained a little and made my car a little muddy. I had to store it under my car cover for the two days and I can't with a little mud. So, I said to myself that if I took my car to a car wash and gave them microfiber towels, it would be ok.

So, I did. As soon as it got out of the wash cycle, the man with my MF towels dropped them. He simply shook them off and used them! I wanted to cry. Then, he sprayed window cleaner directly on my rims (and my brakes) and tires as his way of cleaning? Anyhow, I've learned my lesson and I won't ever take it to a car wash. I'll always plan ahead.

We get a detailer that comes to my office every few months. Even though the car is pretty new, I am having him do it to protect from the winter.

I can sympathize with how you feel. My mother insists on taking the family cars to this "premium" tunnel wash place. They use cheap towels that are falling apart and which have been dropped on the ground and picked up all kinds of grit. The cars look terrible from the horrific swirling to the point where there was hardly any reflection left on one of the black ones.

I polished out the silver and one of the black cars for the folks when I went back to visit them, after which my mom said that's great, she'll take it back to that place to wash and keep them clean. I told her if she ever does that again and thinks that throwing away $15 or more on a car wash once every few weeks to have the cars scratched up by a kids making minimum wage and who are only concerned about washing enough cars to keep their jobs, then I won't do jack for their cars anymore. So far I think she's compliant, though I haven't been back to check up on them for a bit.

BTW, dad was ecstatic over his silver car - he said it was like getting a brand new car again.
