How to Clean Exhaust Tips?

It's been a LONG winter, and the elements have taken their toll on my exhaust tips. What's the best way to clean/shine them up?

At the very top of the page there is an "OFF TOPIC" section. That is where you can find Wash & Wax, and other sections as well.

For really dirty exhaust tips I use an APC (Chemical Guys Grime Reaper) to clean them and then follow up with either Optimum metal polish or Eagle One Nevr Dull

I use fine steel wool to clean my exhast tips on all may autos. I do this after each washing with no need to polish.
I've had the car since November.

Exhaust Tailpipe

Spray down the inside and outside of the tips with P21S Total Auto Wash, allow to dwell, it will to start break down the grime. To clean the outside parts of the exhaust use either a Mini E-Z Detail brush (they are perfect for cleaning the areas between dual-tips) or an old micro fibre used strictly for dirty jobs and Optimum Metal Polish.

Use #0000 synthetic steel wool (very fine grade) with the P21S Total Auto Wash to clean out the insides of the exhaust tips. Polish using P21S Polishing Soap and/or Optimum Metal Polish and #0000 synthetic steel wool on the insides of the tips. Now move on to the outside of the tips once again with Optimum Metal Polish and an older microfiber towel that is no longer used for the painted surfaces. If there’s a grain in the finish, ensure to polish with the grain.

Thanks!

Thank you for all of your inputs. I decided to go the 'easy' route first, so I used the Bar Keeper's friend to clean the exhaust tips and it did a great job.! I followed up with the Optimum metal polish and they look phenomenal. Thanks again!

You can also use 3M rubbing compound. You need to use a good amount and it will leave it looking like new. It won't scratch the metal like steel wool and some cleaners have acids that might stain the metal.

Simple:

1) Apply Liquid Wrench to Nut - (don't want to bung 'em up)
2) Remove bolts & tips
3) Brake parts cleaner
4) Brasso
5) Assemble (graphite grease for future disassy ease is optional but recommended)
6) Clock tips around to hide dings & dents
7) Torque - gingerly
8) Feel satisfied when you look in the rearview and see the tailgater admiring your shiny tips.

'Nuff said.
