Got new Porter cable...questions on how much polish to put on pads

This is my 1st try at polishing and want to know how much polish to put on the pad before I start. I'm using Optimum Polish 2 with white Lake pads. Do I need to dampen the pad 1st? Thanks in advance.

You can mist the pad with a Quick Detailer before applying the polish and check out these videos for some excellent demos on how to use your PC:

Generally people make a light cross on the pad (2 thin lines of polish)

Gurus, correct me if I'm a little off.

Eh, it really comes down to preference really. Depending on the polish, the amount you apply will vary. With Optimum Polish, IME, you really don't have to apply too much since the working time is generally pretty long.

I usually apply a dime size at the 12, 3, 6, 9 o'clock position and center.

Thats my theory as well. Once pad is conditioned, you will find you need less than a dime size for further panels/areas.
