Got the headlight cleared up today...product review

I am not sure if this should be in the picture gallery or what section but I had one of my headlights really jacked up, JNC told me it was due to UV rays and I tried the normal headlight restore polish and such with no luck. Today I went to advance to buy the maguiars headlight restoration kit (25 bucks) and it came with a hand sander with a 3000 and 1000 grit pad, headlight polish plastx stuff, and a clear coat type polish also, as well as a drill buff attachment and a microfiber cloth. It took about an hour to do both headlights but wow what a difference. I was really thinking about buying new headlights before I talked to JNC, thanks to him for telling me to try wet sanding and buffing first, great guy to deal with. Anywho on to the pictures, Before:

After:

I would recommend this product to anyone with major headlight hazing and will be doing this to my DD civic this week sometime too. Alot of people claim you can do two cars with this but I think not. I used pretty much all of everything and sand paper was worn down by the end.

Looks much better! I used that stuff before and it did great.

Not trying to be rude but has your car been in an accident before? The front left fender doesn't line up with the corner of the headlight very well. You can see the gap between the hood and the fender in the second picture.

ya I bought the car with a clean carfax but after having it a while I noticed that when I went to put my new headlights in. if all goes well in the next year or two the car will be getting a full paint job and all of that worked out. It bugs the crap out of me but I'm in the process of buying a house and thats more important than a paint job at this point haha

Make sure to apply a sealant after doing this especially when you said it was due to "UV rays".

Nice results!

I don't use the kit but when I restore headlights I usually wet sand with 1000,1500,2000,2500, and then 3000. Yes, I'm very anal. I then buff it with M105, M205, and finish with a sealant. Makes them look brand new again.

Looks great. I genuinely hope that kit works for you and it stays that way for a long time.

I used the Sylvania restoration kit. Looked decent when I was done with it, but after a couple months it turned back to

I had it restored today at a professional detailer... literally looks brand new.

If you used the G1900 kit then it did not come with a "sealant". That's basically just some pads, towels, plastx, and maybe some kind of protective wax.

I would highly recommend actually painting on a good UV rated automotive clear coat (like what the lights have from the factory). 3M makes good stuff.

Yea and it sucks. I remember resanding and resanding my jdm one piece prelude lights and going "WTF IS GOING ON! IT'S PLASTIC FOR ^&^% SAKE!"

Then someone told me to clear it and voila, it shined until the day I sold her. And that's the thing, the UV clear will look tons better then perfectly polished plastic.

You know I'm looking at your avatar and I think I know where you live...cuz I used to be there myself. Lol
