Exterior Detail:Audi A4 98,000 miles "Not 56K"
It’s been awhile since I posted a detail and just finished this 2002 Audi A4 with 98,000 miles on the odometer. It had some pretty good scratches on it so I thought it would be a good one to post.
Process: Washed with Megs Gold class and Foam gun
-2 bucket wash with grit guards
-Clay bar Megs brand white with Adams quick detailer as lube
-Taped off most trim pieces with Blue painters tape
Polish: I used the Flex XC3401 Buffer with LC Purple Foamed Wool Pad
UDM with 4” yellow pad and M105 for rear trunk lip area near emblems and license plate
-M105 Compounding Polish followed up in some areas with Menzerna SIP on White LC Pad 6.5”
-3M 1500-2000 grit wet sanding paper for the rear bumper
There was a lot of dusting so I actually tried my California Duster that was lying around and it worked surprisingly well at removing most of the dusted polish. It was about 25 degrees outside so I used my Portable Kerosene Heater 30,000 BTU which heated my 2 ½ garage to about 70 degrees and allowed the polishes to do their magic. Since I could not re-wash the car after polishing I tried Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer to clean the surface prior to applying 4 Star UPP (Polycharged) as my LSP.
The Audi paint lived up to its reputation and was rock hard. I had to hit each panel at least 8 times to remove all the deeper scratches and there were a ton of em. In that I mean I had to work in the Polish at least 8 separate times. Wish I had the rotary for this one but maybe next time. The M105 and Purple foamed wool pad really finished down beautifully which in most areas was LSP ready.
Wheels were cleaned with the Megs Gold class and then coated with DP wheel wax, Tires got 2 coats of Ultima Tire and trim guard plus
Interior was a quick wipe down with Aerospace 303 protectant. Leather seats were cleaned and then treated with Pinnacle Leather conditioner.
The car was delivered late at night on day 2 so we drove over to a nearby Gas station for the customer to look at the car under the huge Halogens (whew… it looked fantastic) I was then lucky enough to get a few daylight pics the next day at his work.
Ok on with the pics.

Awesome work Conan!.....Awesome!
I always wondered if I could use M105 and a PFW pad on my Flex 3401. What speed did you use? Did the M105 gum up on you?
This is my favorite Pic. I wish my TL-S paint was that flat. Darn Acura orange peel.

Thank You! it was alot of work
Absolutely
Ha..ha..! There is always a critic! I did get the wells but in the one pic it looks dirty... that was a day later and he drove it through some puddles and it was actually icy. I wiped most of it off the lower panels b4 the pics were taken but I was not wiping the wells again! ha..ha..!
Thank You!
Oh yeah M105 and the PFW is an awesome combo. It finishes down so nice!
I did not have any issues with it gumming up on me. Speed 6
Ya know whats interesting... I have been hanging out at a BMW paint shop and befriended the head painter who is passing along alot of great info to me. I noticed that alot of BMW paint has alot of orange peel. He said they are actually putting more orange peel in the paint as they found it refracts the harmful UV rays and they believe it is better for the paint finish over all?
He was Blown away! He bought the car used a couple years ago and it is a family car. He kept walking around the car asking where all the scratches went. The Hood was really bad and the owner said it bothered him every time he washed it. Same with the trunk. His smile was ear to ear. *Priceless*
This was a $550 detail. (And that was a deal... remember this was a full 2 day job at 25hrs working time) Had I known that I would have bid it at $600-$700. A repaint would have been around $3,000.

Great job as usual! I still want to drive up there and get you to do my 09 TSX. My plans kept falling through though, and now I think I'll wait until spring. I've been babying the paint though so hopefully there wont be much correction you need to do. You're still interested in doing it, right?

Beautiful!!! Alot of people are not aware of what paint correction can really do, and that a $600-800 paint correction at 97% and up is a steal in comparison to a full repaint in the thousands.
