Excessive Polishing?

I did my first wash after purchasing my used TL. I used Meguiar's Gold Class wash, then I dried it off with a dry microfibre towel, but I still seen these swirls. Is it wax? The dealer I bought it from said he had it detailed. I'm new to the whole washing process so I only bought the Meguair's and Turtle Platinum Series Ultra Gloss Liquid Wax.

Can I just apply the wax on my next wash or do I have to fix this first?

MD03CL-S said that is hours and hours of polishing that has to be removed

Is my paint

More: Flickr

I need to check other parts of the car when it's sunny again. I was only able to see this after drying the card down afrer my wash.

what a poor detailing job.

the only way to get rid of those swirls is to polish them out with a machine.
I suggest taking it to a well known detailer that knows what he is doing.

Easy. Dealer gives car to the kid that "washes" cars on the lot and then gives said kid a high powered polisher and says, "polish it up".

Now its' going to take a TON of work to correct.

Any chance you can take it back to the dealer and tell 'em to get a professional to fix it?

Wow...what a hack job!

I am with Bearcat94. Start searching for a local professional detailer. It will be very easy for you to show a pro what you do not like.

OR

If you are serious about paint, you now have a fall project and the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

No worries. This can be repaired.

Id go back to the dealer and make them get a professional to polish it. I suck at detailing and even I couldn't do that to a car.

Dealer detailers don't know and often don't care what they're doing so taking it back to the dealer will more than likely end in the same result. What that looks like there is typical soft paint meets wool pad and heavy compound on a rotary buffer run by some minimum wage don't-give-a-shit.

^ i agree. I think you should at least talk to the dealer and ask them if they will pay for the damage? Or at least give u some incentive. If not you can always DIY polishing your car. If you are interested. I have my buffer and pads for sale. I just sold all my liquid since polish too way too much freaken time.

Wow, such holograms! I think the above the best advice. Have the dealer pay for a professional detail and no matter what, say no to any further detailing services by them.

I don't think I wanna go back to the dealer because most likely he'll give it to the same detailer to do it again and who knows what more he could fk up. I'll probably bring it to the guy who does it here in Toronto. Is there any harm if I continue washing it with just soap until the polish is removed? I guess I shouldn't wax it just yet?

If you are taking it to a professional detailer, it doesnt really matter any way....

make sure the dealership will pick up the tab....

That is not polish, just to clarify. Those are holograms left behind from using a too-abrasive compound and failing to finish down with a finishing polish and pad. You kind of have to compare polishing to woodworking in that you have heavy grit sandpaper and lighter grit sandpaper and usually the latter follows the former. The same is true. You could theoretically drive it like that forever and wash it like you normally do, it's just not going to look any better until it's taken care of.

yup. look like someone used a wool pad and didn't care to take the time to finish it up.

for about 250 bucks, you can buy a machine, polish, pads and sealant and do it yourself...in that condition, its going to take you most of one day to get it the way it should look...then since you will already have the equipment and supplies and know how to do the job, you can now maintain that black paint the right way....

^ I don't think I'm that hardcore yet . Give me a few years maybe .

I can only see it when the sun hits it dead on. I didn't analyse the other side yet. The sunny days are over now .

I think I might visit the dealer tomorrow with it. So they just have to use a finishing polish and pad to fix it or does it require more work? e.g. did they just forget to finish off or did they fk up that it has to start from scratch?

Sorry, but that paint was screwed up from the start. An inexperienced hack got a hold of that paint and made a mess of it. The paint is going to require a 2 or 3 step polishing. The good thing is that Acura paint is fairly easy to correct and will not require a real aggressive polish.

I personally could not drive my car around with paint in that shape. It is all personal preference and what you are willing to tolerate. The majority of cars on the road have similar paint to yours so you are definitely not alone. You can fix your car panel by panel and stretch the project over a couple of months. Then the project will not seem so daunting.

It looks like the guy who did it was in a rush. You probably need to do a light polish and then jewel the paint afterwards. Should take about 2 hours.

I gave my car a wash in the morning but since it wasn't really sunny I wasn't able to see the ugliness so I didn't go to the dealer. It's impossible to see it now so I guess that's why it isn't bothering me too much. I only seen it that horrible when I took the pic. It's starting to get cold now so hopefully next year when it starts to warm up I can update this thread on the topic.

Actually (at least where I work) the majority of the detailers care about how their cars turn out but the reason we may have a bad turn out is because management is trying to cram vehicles out the door.
We get the hurry up and get them done as fast as possible we have people who need these cars or going to buy them ect. ect. So when they turn out like crap we get yelled at by management. Well do you want 2 good cars in a day or 6 below average. 9 out of 10 managers will say 6...

I worked at a dealership before and can tell you, a lot of the time they use glaze to fill in swirls and to hid holograms. Dealership is always quaintly over quality always, so they use a lot of glaze and wax with lots of silicone in it to hid the defects. After couple washes you see how horrible the paint is.

Find a local detailer and have them pay for it.

Yeah holograms is kind of hidden on cloudily days. Make sure you bring the car back to the stealership on a nice sunny day, so you can point out all the defects in the paint. Good luck keep us updated.

As above posts said this is due to a too abrasive pad and compound used on a rotary buffer by someone who didnt know what they were doing. If you lived in CT I would be able to fix it for you.

Thanks guys for offering to fix it for me . I don't know if I'll bring it back to the dealer. Btw, this wasn't an Acura dealer(used car dealer). It has been several months since I've gotten the car and I can only highlight the defect once the warm weather kicks in and I do a nice hand wash.

I'm going to have it fully detailed in the summer so hopefully I can see the car's true sexiness .
