Dealer Prepped Simoniz expired. How to prep now?
When my wife and I bought her '08 Camry SE a few years ago, we opted for the Simoniz paint protection applied by the dealer. It was warranted for 3 years and has done an amazing job keeping the paint safe from scratches. Now the 3 years is up and I'm wondering what I need to do.
Do I just clay the car to get any Simoniz off and start to polish/wax it? I just want to make sure all the Simoniz is off the car and what do I do to protect the paint?

All of the Simoniz was most likely off the car a long long time ago. You can find way better stuff to protect your car on this site. Claying is a great place to start, then you can polish if you want, sealant, wax.

You can keep the paint safe yourself just by protecting it with a sealant/wax, or both, and using proper washing and drying techniques.
With the experience I've had with Simoniz products, I'd have to agree with dmassott. But a proper detail couldn't hurt, right?

I'm looking at getting a porter cable 7424xp for my first buffer. What other items do I need to get the job done easier. I know a lot of you talk about a backing plate. What is it used for? Also, what type of polish do I need to take out very light 'spider web' swirls. They are not all over, just in a few spots.

Talk to Pat @ Excel Detail or I think its called West Coast Detail now, he will hook you up with everything you need to get started. He got me everything I needed and you can even call him when you run into any problems.
