Try using a microfiber towel and plain old water. Rinse a good microfiber towel out often. (This is a good way to clean the dash if you're not talking crayons or some horror-show mess on it.)

If have been told by more than a few people to NOT put any kind of "protectant" on the dash, especially any shiny ones -- you will drive yourself nuts from the reflection on to the windshield.

BTW -- I use the microfiber on the dash and rest of interior, and it is still smells like new and is very clean!

303 Aerospace protectant is the best. 100% UV protection and it looks great, not too shiny but perfect. Sports stores carry it (REI) but you can also get it online.

I have 303, along with about 4 other "great" products. I now use the 303 on the tires and other rubber around the car.

If there is "dirt" and the dash needs a cleaning, this situation is different than protecting (via the 303). Unless someone tries hard to mess the dash up, a wet and clean high quality microfiber towel should be tried first to clean up the dash.

If you are going to a protectant in general, the 303 stuff is excellent.

However, the dash is the one place that should NOT get a coat of protectant.

If there is dirt or grime of a specific type, the person who has a problem with it, should mention it, and ask for solutions based on the type of "gunk" it is. They do make cleaners for the interior and vinyl that do not protect or add any luster. They just "clean" and remove nasty "gunk" from the interior.
