Cleaning the quad tips

Anyone have any ideas on what to use to best clean the quad tips on the SH AWD?

I've seen some threads on the 3G forum that suggest Barkeeper's Friend. Anyone use this?

I just use really fine steel wool. Not coarse.

My tips were totally black because of the carbon deposits baked on them with heat in last 3 years.
Tried oven cleaner and other cleaners nothing worked
Then
I used comet with a scrubber and hot water
took me 15 min each

It worked very well and now tips look brand spanking new

Used Barkeeper's Friend. Maybe 5 minutes each. I'll post pics in a bit.

Sounds like a good plan, but will have to do that next time. Was just looking to fill 20 minutes of my day today.

Left one done. Right one not.

Right one before.

Right one after.

Both after.

I use Neverdull and 0000 steel wool. I start off with the Neverdull to break down the caked on build up. Then I use the steel wool to knock down the stubborn build up and some of the brown/black discoloration. I then use a microfiber towel to wipe it down. If I missed any spots, I repeat with the Neverdull and steel wool.

Great job, I normally use #0000 wool with barkeepers finally with polish. I'll try Neverdull next time.

I've been using the exact same products for years and they work great on build up.

I used the powder because that is what I had on-hand. Frankly, if the liquid is as good, that would probably be easier.

furthermore; it doesnt really matter what product you use.

as it seems that nvr dull and bar keepers friend accomplish the same exact thing.

i use brasso. i've taken off 6+ year of crud on a tailpipe before, and got it to a mirror shine on my old civic.
after it's polished up like that, maintenance is usually a quick wipe down with an old sock.
after winter, i need to repolish, but it takes much less time after the first one.

I got both Barkeepers (5.00) and Ner dull (4.87) on Amazon and plan to clean up my exhaust this weekend. I'll take before and after pictures, clean one side with one product and the other with the other product, to determine which in my opinion works best.

Thanks guys! After seeing his thread, I tried the Barkeeper Friend today on my 2010 TL that had pretty dark tips when I bought it in February. I was expecting this would take multiple times to remove the residue but wow, it looks like new after just a couple of minutes of effort. I'm impressed.

I am glad to find this thread.

I found that the right exhaust tip of my car is always dirtier than the left. The right exhaust pipe has less restriction so most of the exhaust exit from the right? Any thoughts or comments?

I've heard people using toothpaste but you have to use the one with baking soda in it and then just a toothbrush to wipe it off and polish. Going to try that tonight just for shits and gigs. Will post pics tonight
