I used Brasso and it worked great. Couldn't find Bar Keepers Friend when I was looking. Use some muscle and expect to scrub a while, but the result is worth it. While your down there, if the black on the inside of the tip is flaking off or discoloring, tape it off and paint it with some high temp paint. Results are great.

Use #0000 steel wool. As a lubricant, you can use simple green or mothers mag polish.

Is cleaning the interior and exterior a different process? I'd like to hear some feedback on what type of cleaner is used in both scenarios.

For every week touch up on my stainless steel exhaust systems, I use "Never Dull". When the system needs a polish, I use the "Borla" stainless steel exhaust cleaner. You apply it with medium grit bronze wool. Go to the Borla website & watch the video on this product.

If anyone has used bar keepers friend, brasso, AND never dull, I'd love to know what works best out of the 3.

I used a wire brush and goof off...
Then finished off with turtle metal polish.

And I'm not being sarcastic...the stuff was crusted on there for 5 years and would not come off any other way!

I agree with Bar Keepers Friend its cheap, easy to use and has always seemed to get my exhaust tips shining on the TL-S and Infiniti FX45. =)

I tried using NeverDull, Bar Keeper's Friend liquid, Mother's Mag Polish and none really stood out for me. My tips were horrible, so maybe that was the case, but I had to use 000 steel wool to actually get down to the steel. What seemed to work the best for me was the Mother's Mag Polish and the steel wool. They look great now and I can easily see any of the above three products for light maintenance and keeping them shiny, but if they are caked on black, you will need alot of elbow grease, time and something stronger like steel wool or possibly a scotch brite pad (gentle non-scratch one preferrably).

Quick question: Are people cleaning the inside of the tips too? Leaving them as is? Possibly painting them?

Thanks.

You'd probably want to break down the grime on the exhaust tip with some sort of degreaser and/or APC. Wheel cleaner can work pretty well with doing this as well. After that, you can use your favorite metal polish.

As for me, I tend to use either Autosol or P21S Polishing Soap for cleaning up exhaust tips or any other metal.

I would think degreasing and/or cleaning first would help

I was cleaning my stainless steel exhaust today and i wanted to clean the tips.
I took a scotch brite sponge pad to the top (the green and yellow sponge), and it dulled it...
Is there a good way to polish it?
Does the mothers exhaust cream work to bring it back to near mirror shine?

...or do i use the borla/turtle paste and brass wool?

#0000 steel wool and whatever OTC metal polish (liquid) that you can find will do the trick.
Like Denzil said, if its got lots of grime, use a degreaser first, I can't think of anything OTC for degreaser, but you can order something like Meguiars APC+ online for fairly cheap.

* APC stands for All Purpose Cleaner for those of you that don't know.

Sounds good, Thanks!
I had no idea that a plastic scouring pad would have done this... i guess the coating is like sandpaper ( i was just trying to get rid of carbon inside and some minor blemishes - really minor, and as a result damaged the shine)
Really they were perfect before this.
Good to know that the meguiars will polish this back to the way it was.

in my research, I've heard of using brass wool and borla paste works?

I have a question. I have the base ATLP exhaust and the only think I find around the area is NEVER DULL by Eagle One IIRC. Do I have to worry about the ATLP Laboratories etching on the exhaust or can I go over that as well?

I have always used grime reaper diluted way down with water to clean them and then use a mothers cleaner wax to actually polish and clean them...
