Car Wash in harsh weather?
anyone go wash their car now? I know is going to get dirty in 10 secs, but do we need to wash our cars for maintenance reason? How often???

Road salt + snow (water) + steel = rust.
I wash my car every 500km or so in the winter. I use a touchless wash but I dry the door jams by hand to make sure they don't freeze.

Just to let you guys know...My friend posted this on ClubSi a week ago. He saids
"ppl here have been misinformed about the effects salt has on a car.
According to a friend of mine that works for a division of Pennsoil as a checmist, salt on your car in the winter is not a big deal in terms of rusting out your car. Salt corrosion occurs more in warmer climates (near seas water, beaches) in the cold the corrosion affect is greatly slower than in the summer. I have verified this with the ppl at Rustproofing places that the Number 7 auto mall uses (ALta Infiniti)
Yes washing off the salt is a must, but more for your cars finish than anything else. You should be more worried about salt seizing parts than actually corroding your car.
In the spring time however make sure there is NO salt left on your car as heat cause the salt to corrod your car at a rapid rate.
With that said RELAX ppl, salt in the winter is not THAT bad, just wash your car once a week or once every 2 weeks as you normally would and spray the underbody now and then. "

Wait.. that's off topic unless I say something about car washes...
What does everyone mean when they say to spray the underside of the car? How do you do this thoroughly? All I can manage is to try to get it "kinda wet"... I can't exactly see anything to make sure I don't miss a spot. And I have no idea if these touchless washes even try.

Was that sarcasm? I have a t-shirt that says that on it and I don't wear it out of the house (plus it's too small for me).
