Buff/Polish-Terrible Swirls-14 Mustang

Sorry about the bad pics but here are some before
So my friend asked me to help bust out some swirls on a 14 Mustang gt. The owner is 20 and knows nothing about cars, runs this thing through the auto scratcher at the dealership he works at every week. After about 3 hours of us both working on it she looks beautiful again. The lesson here-Stop using the auto carwahes with brushes-your car will thank you

Car turned out great. I am not a fan of black because it shows all imperfections but gosh it looks good when it’s all cleaned up.

Thank you! I just really hope he listens to us, we walked him through how to properly wash a car.

This is what my car looks like! Can you please share your procedure on how you got those swirl marks out? Can you recommend a sealant product to add extra durability?

Are you familiar with buffing or waxing? You will probably get some different response but First I wash/clay bar the car at the same time. Then I use a 2 step procedure with an orbital polisher-not a traditional spinning buffer because if used incorrectly it can really screw up your finish. Step one is a gritty compound for rough swirls/scratches and 2 is a more fine compound-give it that deep look. To finish it off I just wax the car. Im sure there is a tutorial for it and might be different from what I do with different terms.

You're right, there are many different tutorials/opinions. Many of which are very elaborate and require a lot of products. Which compounds and pads do you recommend? Do you apply the wax with the orbital polisher as well or by hand?

^my sealants say on the back of the bottle that it can be applied by machine on lowest settings, with the least aggressive pad(generally black)
to save time; i do apply it with random orbital. but again, you're getting into opinions...as you can absolutely marr the finish after you took 12-24 hours cleaning the paint in the first place

The brand of compounds I used this time was called Rupes. I always apply wax with a small orbital, it is a lot faster then doing it by hand. I actually bought an orbital palm sander from Harbor Freight and put a Velcro 4inch pad on it and it works great. Pads are different materials and shapes made for what you need it for. Post a pic of your paint and we could recommend if you just need a wax or buff.

That does look great. I have a black TSX. My son loves black and I took the plunge. Never again. When it is smooth and shiny it does look great, but it's too much work now for my 60+ body.
My son uses Griot products. Good stuff, available on line and some at our local Auto Zone.
