black crud on tailpipe

So I didn't monitor the wifey's car close enough (07 RDX) since she was getting it washed regularly at the dealership. To make a long story short she has some black gunk built up on the inferior aspects of the tailpipes. I don't think it's rusted yet as it isn't even a year old...does anyone have any good ideas how to get this mess off without rubbing until my arm falls off? Thanks ahead of time.

neverdull, works like a charm, but requires a little elbow grease. I would also say try using a solution of salt and lemon juice with a tooth-brush, that may work.
