OK, I've tried basically everything to dry my car. A chamois, a synthetic chamois, towels... Even the beloved leaf blower.

But I've found the promise land. I was so skeptical of the claims... That you could dry a car without having to wring out the towel. That it doesn't leave streaks. Sure... Whatever.

I finally got to try it out today. Best car detailing product I've ever used. Hands down.

I spent way too much time drying the car before. The leaf blower is cumbersome, loud and takes time. A chamois, while nice, is timely as you have to wring out every other pass or so. And it can be streaky. Towels just don't cut it... They get too saturated too quickly.


I dried both my cars with one towel, without wringing out. No streaks whatsoever.

Pricey, yes. Worth it... Without a doubt. Ditch the leaf blower. Throw away the chamois. This is it.

I used one for the first time yesterday and also did my 2 cars without wringing it out once.

The towel is amazing. One of the best purchases I made for my car.

Seriously though... I was a big believer in the leaf blower. But it takes way too long to do a car.

It's still useful for wheels, but I'll take a extra pass with the mit and subsequent washing to ensure a clean surface and use the towel. It seriously is that amazing.

 

HMMMMM...I'll have to get me one!

Well, if it really work THAT good I would consider trying this in combination with my Leaf Blower.
I believe that this thing works great on wide open surfaces like the roof, hood & side panels, but I would still use the blower for drip dry blowing of areas like the mirrors, front grill, spoiler, windshield wipers & wheels.

My wheels are a BITCH to do and I can’t imagine anything easier then the blower.

The one thing that worries me after a bit of research is that these “suckers” are made from up to 80% Polyester.
Sal Zaino is a big 100% Cotton freak.

Shawn, what do you think microfiber towels are made of? Yup you guessed it, polyester. I did the scratch test with my yosteve MF towels on an old CD and it did not scratch one bit.

So what’s your opinion Neil? You’re a big Leaf Blower user.
I use the small ones on my plastic lens glasses all the time and never got a scratch either.

 

I am of the mindset that the less touches the surface, the less chance of scratching. I use the leaf blower and then blot and leftover water with the absorber.

I use the MF towel to clean my gauge faces all the time. A shot of Plexus cleans the dust right off them. And no scratches.

I have a BIG Craftsman Air Compressor in my garage too.
I tried it on the wheels and the 220 MPH blast of air from my Toro does a better job thank you.

btw Shawn, wanna compare air compressors? i know you probably already have the pic of yours.

 

Size doesn’t matter when it comes to spraying air out of a compressor to dry off wheels.
Sure a 60-Gallon tank will have to cycle less then my 15-gallon unit, but a 30 second blast of air to blow water off will make absolutely no difference.
My unit is 150-PSI and the regulator is set at about 80.
Most hand sprayers are only rated to handle 80-90 PSI.
If we’re painting a house or sandblasting a rusted car, SURE yours is better.
I don’t do that so I couldn’t justify such a big, noisy unit taking up extra room in the garage.

A Leaf Blower has more CFM of air while a Compressor delivers lower CFM & higher pressure.
Moving more air is more important to drying then extreme pressure.
I’ve tried both and the blower just works better, makes less of a mess and is quieter.

So unless you have a more valid argument…..
Leaf Blower > Any Air Compressor

 

I ordered a Big Blue.

Considering I use MF applicators and MF towels for buffing, I'm not worried about the polyester content.

It does not cost much more than an Absorber, so I'll give it a try. I ordered the Best Towel Kit since I am in need of new MF anyway.

 

Up until now I've followed your instructions and gotten great results specifically using only 100% cotton towels to clean, dry & apply your products.
What's your opinion of all these new "microfiber" products that are coming out?
I'll admit that I use them for cleaning delicate items in the house and they work great on my plastic lens glasses.
They're supposed to be more delicate then cotton so it would seem to be a perfect choice for the car.

Unfortunately, the jury is still out on them..... Some of them I tested are excellent and do not scratch... however some are terrible and definitely scratch. The quality control of these products from overseas especially Korea is not consistent. So you never know if they will be the same scratch free quality...
(Even when using the same brands, I found the quality to be inconsistent.)
It's a shame because I think the concept is excellent...
For now I do not use them on my paint.... I'm still lab testing...

However they are excellent for glass and other cleaning areas...
Again, I just don't use them on my paint.

NOTE: If you are already using microfiber towels, look carefully at your paint finish under fluorescent light when you are using your towels. If you are not getting any swirls or fine scratches, from the microfiber towels then you are okay and can continue to use them... Remember it's better to be safe than swirly.

Hey, I got these in about 3 weeks ago and I finally got the chance to wash the car, due to rain, school etc...

This towel is pretty fucking awesome I used 1 on my entire car and it didnt streak at all. Just to be sure I went over the car w/ 2 small microfiber towels I have and got off the water coming from underneath the door sills, window trim, etc... This thing REALLY absorbs water like a fucking camel. I definitely recommend it. However I learned that it should be washed before 1st use lol...got my car a little linty :\

20 bucks is steep. But look at how much is spent on polishes, wheel cleaner, tire dressings, etc... You wanna play, you gotta pay.
