Best way to remove scratches?
 

My car is starting to get more and more scratches on it. It is pretty much impossible to avoid since I live in a heavily populated area.

I figured I might as well start learning how to properly remove the scratches so I can get good at it and not have to be so disappointed when my car gets marked up.

The car is almost brand new and the paint job is beautiful. I am happy with it, so you can imagine how much it sucks to get scratched up.

One of the scratches is my fault. You have to back in to the parking place at my job, and it is also on a huge slope, so it is really difficult to see. I backed into the fence so slightly that I did not even feel it, but the rear bumper has a deep scratch where it took the paint off. Luckily it is very low, down by the right muffler, so you can't really see it unless you know what you are looking for.

The second scratch is due to some asshole. Not sure how or why it is there, but there is some kind of blue paint in two different spots. They are small scuffs but definitely noticeable.

I saw one video where a guy was using WD40 and Toothpaste to remove stuff, but I do not buy that.

Without pictures of the scratches it's hard to say, but you can try using a rubbing compound and a microfiber towel. If the scratches are too deep, you may need touch up paint.

If the scratches are superficial (e.g. in the clear coat only), try this -

Step 1. ScratchX
Step 2. A light polish
Step 3. Wax

If they are deep, find a professional.

Without getting into pictures, there's 2 ways about it. You can either go for a full blown correction, or do what I call a paint enhancement. Either way, you're probably going to want to pick up a DA polisher and probably some Megs or Lake Country microfiber pads.

No biggy. Just giver her the old hand job first and see how she likes it. Make sure to wax her after! No before, but after!

Order a paint pen from Acura. It'll cover that bottom scratch right up!

A little late to the game, but if you haven't taken care of it yet:
green marks = paint transfer. Take some Megs M105 on a microfiber towel and it should come right off.

black marks on bottom of bumper: scraped paint off to substrate. Requires repaint to be perfect. Interim solution would be touch up with something like Dr. Colorchip.

ended up getting this stuff because it was the cheapest. I didn't feel like spending $30 on a buffer so I just got a microfiber cloth.

Almost perfect other than the one scratch. The deep one. Got everything else off!!


Yo guys I did it!! The only thing left is that one little scratch. Also I got a backup camera so I can see the fence!!! THIS IS MY BABY...I have never treated a car this good.

Wax it after.... You stripped your paint... Nothing wrong, just put a little wax on it after you use that stuff.... It's good stuff, BTW... Hit it with some Meg's NXT or Carnuba, good for what I find in stores... There's better stuff out there, but this is good enough for now...

Go get a paint touch up pen from Acura. Go to the dealer with your VIN, they will order it and contact you when it arrives... Sometimes they have it in stock, but not often...

Those scratches on the borders of the scratch were already there. I actually got a lot of them out. I don't think it is stripping. But then again, I am not totally sure.

I have already found pearl white paint pens by Acura online. I have yet to pull the trigger because I feel like its a lot for one scratch.

BUT... I need to just have it on hand anyway, huh.

You you removed the wax from the paint wherever the scratch out toched it, it polishes into the clear this way, needs fresh wax after over that spot.


I buy a paint pen every time I buy a car, right away... You never know when you may need it!!!

Oh crap. Well luckily I have some turtle wax. So just wax that area? I touched up multiple places, I hope I can remember everywhere that I did it.

Yeah, no biggy. Just wax it sooner than later to be sure, but for now, hit it where you know you buffed it and you'll be fine.

It's a pretty new car so it's not like your paint will fade off immediately or anything...

My car, a 2011 Kia Optima EX, 174K miles. Live/Hate relationship with this one. It's super reliable and comfortable, but that's about it!

My cars last year...


I had the red Camry fof 3 months, couldn't stand driving it, so I traded it on this TL... Like a fool, I convinced nyself the TL was too much car for me to handle, and I took a low ball offer for it amd got tge Optima....


It literally KILLS me to see these pictures... :bawling:


All of these cars are in great shape... But the TL was my favorite and I'm dying to get back to a TL ir a similar car...

The Camry's engine has horrible rasp and drone, it was completely stock. Interior fit and finish was laughable... Things like that... Also, I think the steering rack was bad and the brakes took a long block to stop the car... It also needes tires, floor mats because it had none and an extra keyfob, it was too much to invest in a car I didn't like... It was a pretty car, but that's about it...


The TL had it's annoyances... Battery drain, heavy doors that would close on you if you weren't careful, super low to the ground, much lower than your TSX. It needed mirror actuators, TB/WP job, tune up, tranny mounts, and some minor suspension work... At the time, I reallly didn't understand what was wrong, but I did some resaerch in retrospect, and figured out everything I should have done and it really wasn't that bad after all...


The Base 3G TL's are excellent cars, but they have that solid, tank-like feel to them. Don't get me wrong, they hamdle super well, but ut won't feel light like a TSX, it will be a little bit more of a highway car, in comparison... My Optima is definitely much lighter, and I can feel that, but it's not as good in any area, compared to a TL.
