Best wax

I want to wax and clay my car, but I've never done so. Any suggestions on what I should use? (any specific brands?)

Define best...
To me, its something that is relatively inexpensive, easily available and easy to apply. I say this because of the wax/sealants I have used so far... altho not too many, they offer similar protection and durability for what they are.

So far, I have used Meg's Gold Class Plus, NXT, Ultimate Wax, Wolfgang DGSP, Pinnacle Soverign and Blackfire Wet Diamond.

Personally, altho others may last tad longer or give better depth, I like Ultimate Wax for reasons I mentioned above.

Abdul, welcome to AcuraZine. Read through some of the old posts here in the Wash & Wax Section. You'll see all the opinions about waxes. Dale (jesstzn) is right-everyone can make a case for their wax being the best.

Welcome to Azine, best is what you make of it. There are a lot of good waxes and sealants out there, my favorite is Blackfire Midnight sun. What car/color do you have.

Wow, only other person I know of who uses 845IW.

It is my goto wax. I will say, though, that the first thing I put on a car after becoming 'responsible' for it is Klasse SG. Then the 845IW as needed.

Speaking of Klasse, anyone had a good wax versus sealant debate lately?

845 is my go to wax as well, I love it.

As a maintenance wax I use Optimum car wax after I wash. Those 2 go together really well IMO.

Mequiars Cleaner/Paste Wax has worked well for me and has lasted a couple of months at a time.

klasse twins, with collinite 845 and optimum spray wax for touch ups between major details.

is this the best? hell if i know...works for me and gives a nice glossy shine everytime, all the time when the car is clean. read....just read.

my must haves for products: durability, ease of use, and reasonable price per ounce. endless positive reviews help too.

up to you what you want to put on your car.

personally-I used Mother's or Mequiar products-works for me. Still get compliments on how shiny my car is after 7+ years, 164k+ miles.

Wow, glad to see another fan of the Klasse and 845 combo!

You know what I use for a QD spray and for touchups? A spray bottle with distilled water and Klasse SG mixed.

hmmm....never thought to do that. i may have to try that. what's the ratio you use? i've use meg's last touch as a QD. love the stuff.

i have about 5-6 layers of klasse SG on my TL. except the TL is topped with poor boy's natty's blue liquid wax since she gets garaged. the other two get the klasse with 845 combo.

works incredibly well and the cars (despite sleeping outside) always feel clean, shiny and soft after every wash (i use ONR wash and wax)! my MDX has a layer of natty's blue over the klasse...a few months later, topped with 845. can't really tell how durable the natty's blue was. sticking with the 845 on the outdoor kids.

Man, I think you robbed my garage. If I need to use "show" wax, it's Natty's Blue. Otherwise, 845IW. I live in the desert. though so the Natty's lasted a matter of hours in the sun... 845 FTW.

For the water/SG I think I started with about 4 parts water to one part SG, but eventually I just put some water in and a few good splashes of the SG. It works well and I feel like I am replenishing the SG armor.

i research a lot before i actually buy...

natty's blue is nice since you can apply in direct sunlight.

Finally washed, clayed and then applied SG to the new TL. 845 will have to wait for next weekend...

I cheat with the SG. Apply on a non-cutting pad (grey) with a PC on speed 2. Wait one hour. Take MF cloth and place over the pad on the PC with the short nap side touching the car. Then I spritz a little of my 1:5 SG:H2O on the panel and buff on speed 4. Takes ALL the aches out of getting SG on thin and removing it.

"Black Box" from Turtle Wax is really good, if you've got a black car. I just finished a few coats of it this weekend, and my '07 TL looks great.

Here is a list of some solid waxes I have used over the years. I'm not claiming they are the best since that is impossible to prove.

In no particular order:
  • Wolfgang Fuzion
  • BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection
  • Meguiars #21
  • Meguiars #26
  • HD Speed
  • Pinnacle Liquid Souverän Car Wax
