Best drying towel

Hey, i got sick of using the cali blade, because it feels that i am scratching up the car every time i run it over the paint. I also tried the absorber, which imo is a good towel, but i want it still leaves water spots on the car. What do you guys use to dry your car and would recommend it to your friends? thanks

Apprently, one towel is not enough, I have issues with excess water streaks. So They recommend a drying towel + an associate towel to pick up the remaining droplets.

Check out Pat's store, it has good stuff in there.

Huh, no one uses chamois's? I use 2, one exclusively for drying and 1 for polishing. Make sure they're real, lamb-skin, not that synthetic rubber shiyit! No water spots, streaks...nothing, just pure shine.

FOUL!
2 WW would be more desirable !
That Absorber does suck though doesnt it? I mean it does actually absorb quite a bit. I remember using them about 10 years ago........

MF WW are the only towels I use for drying. These hold 7x more than conventional towels and you can dry the entire vehicle without wringing it out. Best of all, no streaks and scratch free. The most common size is about 24 x 36 and the associate towel mentioned is 16 x 27. I purchased my WW towels from Excedetail and are available from most online detail sites. This thread has has links to online sites.

A final rinse technique commonly used and often mentioned is sheeting. Remove the spray apparatus from the end of the hose and let the water free flow. Starting from the top, just let the water flow over the surface. All that remains will be residual pools easily soaked up by the WW. Place the WW over the surface and gently pull. The associate towel is used for any extra water not picked up the the main towel. I usually use an all purpose towel for the door jambs and trunk channels.

My method is using a CWB that I replace yearly ($10-$15) then using a WW MF towel.. Best thing in the world to dry the car with. I'm not sure if Patrick will agree with the CWB but the WW is the best thing I've used in years. Dries your car in half the time. Don't go for that Mr. Clean BS cr*p. For less than $20 WW is the way to go.

Vic, you know well enough to use what works best for you. And if thats the CWB, whos to argue! Carry on my good man!
I will agree though, the waffle weaves are awesome for drying.

Hmm, my interest is piqued...do tell. What's the skinny on using chamois'? I've honestly never noticed any scratches caused by it. I only use MF for polishing after a wax.

I have used a chamois .. and Absorber and both are old school .. and will scratch as there is no place for that one grain of grit to go if you have one left over.

If you use either .. wet the hood .. lay either on the hood and let it soak up a bit then hold it by 2 corners and pull it off ( not up but sideways ) .. feel the horrendous amount of friction created .. now tell me what its doing with that grain of sand that will get under it.

As for the CWB .. I won one .. tried it on a couple of customers cars ... gave it to the wife for the shower .. she tried it .. now its in a drawer somewhere.

The least I would use is a couple of Big Blue plush towels that you can get at Walmart .. ( in a pinch ) but in reality I have 3 Waffle Weave towels and it takes 2 of them to dry the TL.

just don't use a fabric softner, and you should be fine.

I just add very little soap and wash them that way.

You'll find different school of thoughts in maintaining/cleaning MF towels. Here's the instructions from PakShak. Also available are detergents made for MF like Micro Restore, Snappy Clean and Micro Rejuvenator to name a few. Couple things to remember; no bleach and no fabric softner.

For drying, I recommend the Monterey and the Riptide as an "associate" towel.

Of course these are not the best, but I have bought MF towels from Target when they are 1/2 price. They work very well, can dry entire RDX with two towels.

Are these the striped ones? Red/White or Blue/White?

Also target just got in some HUGE drying MF towels, I find the quality above average tbh.

I love the Sonus blue towels... they're pretty big but not too big; one could do my G35 coupe without having to wring it out! Since the RDX is a bit bigger, I wring it out once; mayne not I can't remember. They also have silk lined edging to avoid fine scratches.
I also use cheap yellow thin microfiber towels from Costco that comes in a pack of about 20 of the for $10, but they suck; leave water behind, etc. Great for wheels and interior though.

Here's the link to the Sonus blue towels.

I reference the large ones, that have some sort of dog logo on the towel tag. They are in the automotive section.
I have yellow and blue ones. I think at 1/2 price I paid maybe $5 each.
I am sure they are not as nice as ones from detailibg web sites, but I bet not by much.

I went to Target today, but couldn't find these exact ones. They had some striped ones, but they were pretty small I'll check out the other one by my work next week...

I like the absorber because it can be store in the little plastic box that came with it and in my trunk when Im done. Also it doesnt give off a bad mildew smell to it when it is time to use it again.

This WW towel is new to me, so after use, do you hang it dry? Or how does it go?

Yes you hang the ww to dry .. the Absorber through its design can cause a lot of marring.

Hey DIRTY K,

I just ordered these! I actually got the package with the Sonus Microfiber mit and Sonus soap, for $40 (+15% off for my first order ). I'll have to let you know how they work out for me.

I wanted other stuff from Exceldetail though, so I'm going to have to wait a while then order from them next...I'm really glad I found this forum before I bought my TL!!
