Well, today I conditioned the leather for the 1st time. Maybe I'm just spoiled by cloth seats, but what a PITA. I had to go over it twice because it seemd like it soaked it up like crazy. :o

I used meguire's and it looks good, but is there any product out there that makes it easier to apply? I really had to be careful not to lay it on too think because it would collect in the perforations. What does everyone else use? Sorry for sounding like a nOOb, but this is my 1st leather car and I wanna keep it nice.

Think of it this way, leather is like our skin. If you were to lay out in the sun all day, do you think your skin would harden over time ? Would you like lotion on it ? Sure you would, so think of it the same, you leather seats NEED lotion from time to time to keep it soft and healthy ! All you need for "new" leather seats is a conditioner, NO leather cleaner needed.......Hope this helps !

I experinced the same think the first time I did mine, I did about three applications until it stopped soaking it up(this was only a week after I picked up the car ) Many complain about meguires clogging the holes, but I use lexol and have not had a problem yet:P I now reapply ever couple weeks and now the seats are starting to get real soft........Good luck

i use meguiars gold class leather wipes...i haven't had any problems w/ those...make the seats real smooth...no if i can only remember to use them more often..D'oh

I have been using lexol with good results except for the slightly foul odor. This time I used the 303 protectant that was previously used everywhere except the seats. The 303 is thin so is best applied onto towel first. I love microfiber. The seats now are a bit more slippery which I feel may reduce wrinkles. A bit more gloss and 303s UV protection.

use the leather wipes so you dont get in the holes

I use Griots Garage Leather Care. It smells really good, not too strong, it really smells like natural leather. Anyway, its not greasy if it is applied correctly. And the best part is, you can apply it on ther perforations and it wont clog the holes!!! I highly recommend this stuff, check it out! www.griotsgarage.com

From Megs, the professional D180 leather cleaner and conditioner is by far better than their OTC products. WIth that being said, for true conditioning (I average about once a month or so with clients cars), I use Leatherique (unless it's King Ranch or some other kind of aniline leather). From start to finish, takes about 2 or 3 days depending on how dry the leather is. Todd Cooperider did an excellent video on the process and shoot me a PM if the product is something up your alley.

Anyway, as far as leather and car care goes, I tend to read and believe a lot of articles that TOGWT wrote. His contributions can be found in numerous car and detailing web sites.

I didn't know about the types of leather and the finishing process used till I read his articles.
