Advice on how to attract customers?
Without creating a full blown business or making a website, what is the best way to attract customers as a detailer?
I have been working with a PC and Makita for quite a while now, and I have all the products I need to offer full exterior details.
Any advice on simple advertising or how to approach people would be greatly appreciated.

Offer some work at your cost or free if you can do it and document before and after to show work done. Look for work that will offer feed back on your work and will tell others about it. Word of mouth is THE BEST way to get work.

big on the word of mouth. Also, try flyers. Put them on cars, in mailboxes, etc. I'd suggest door-to-door as well, but I personally hate doing door-to-door with a passion.

Use a yard sign (Get it professionally fabricated) when your out detailing. You may even get someone driving by who stops and asks some questions. Wouldnt hurt to do a quick panel on prospective clients as well. Include advertising mini or quick details on your yard sign then upsell to full blown details. Do not be an overwhelming salesmen. Nothing turns people off more then someone who "comes across" as a know-it-all.
