'03 Accord coupe disaster

Azine

My girlfriend's Accord was in TERRIBLE shape with swirl marks, key marks and oxidation. I knew I wouldn't be able to fix the key mark or oxidation without more complex work (as this is my first time using the PC 7424.. ) so I just wanted to familiarize myself with the tool and see how much life I could possibly bring back in the paint.

I'm amazed with how easy the PC was to use!

some pics of my experience:
PS - picking up swirl mark in pictures is harder than I thought.. and I also didn't make any 50-50 shots

the disgusting part...
oxidation that I didn't even attempt to fix
(will probably need repainting?)

after wash and before clay

The long key mark covering the entire passenger side

I BELIEVE these are just after 105

the classic egg-shell splatter in the middle of the door towards the window

after 105+205 and wax

and thats it for now! The sides look amazing in natural light! Has the mirror reflection I'm still learning how to use the PC and I don't have any desire to use any other product yet as I don't feel the need too.. (but if anyone has suggestions, i'm all ears) As time progress, i'll probably learn how to take better pics also

thanks for looking!

Turn around was great. I may be incorrect here but I do think that the major parts will need to be sanded and re-painted. As far as your paint correction job. Looks Great!! The PC is extremely easy to use. I use it on all my jobs now. What pads did you use? I love the Microfiber Pads. Seem to do great with cutting compounds and preventing swirls. Pictures never do the job true justice. Seeing it in person is definitely where it is at. Take some pics of it outside in the natural sun for us. As for taking the pics, I have found it seems to be all about the lighting and angles. I too am horrible at capturing the moment. Work in progress. Overall, great job man.

Looks good! Im suprised the 105/205 combo wasn't too aggressive for the soft paint Acura/Honda is known for.

Hey great job with the pc car looks real good. I dont think that is oxidiztion, i beleive that is clear coat failer in the sections you pictured.

Not to aggressive, just means it corrects easliy. unless your using 105 or a heavy compound on rotary nothing is too aggressive, (its the pressure you apply as well). I find honda/acura clear correct fairly easily, on same note unless your very anal, its very very hard for the average person even with plenty of my advice to keep these clear coats in good shape.

Serious clear coat failure on the roof and trunk lid, if it hasn't started on the hood it will soon. Rest of the car turned out really nice!

looks almost identical to my sis's celica. black seems to be the worst culprit. and in her case she actually did wash it with dish soap + 100000 runs through the car wash

Good work there, certainly better than my first shot at it, lol.
And most people can't even see the swirls when I point it out to them

on another note... am I suppose to wash the car after the 2 polish steps before applying wax? Or is it safe to apply wax right after polish?

You could apply wax right after.
I usually wipe down with an IPA mixture, other times I wash the car again to rid of dust/polishing oil for coating preparation. But on my own car I never wash it after polishing, haven't had any problems to be honest. The sealant I applied back in August is still going strong.

Always floors me when a customer will point out a tiny scratch they want removed that is nearly completely hidden in horrible swirls. When I point that out, they say "well isn't that how everyone's paint looks?".

Sounds like a defective pad to me. I bought my red pads new 2 years ago, still using it, spin dry via my makita at max speed every time, and never had a problem.

Where did you buy your pad?

When I first started detailing, I was kinda impatient and always just ripped the pad off fast instead of slowly. That is probably why I had to buy 10 more pads. :x
