Hey guys, need your help. Was looking into an auto TL Type-S with 90,000 km (56,000 miles). The price is $28,000 CDN ($25,000 US).

A - What do you think of the deal?

B - Do you recommend the purchase of a 2 year old car with that much mileage? What would be the things to look out for? What should I expect from it in the days following the purchase? Has the type-s shown any nagging problems at that much mileage?

I bought an 01 CL S Last April with 151k miles, it just turned 170k and is better than ever (lots of mods later)

I can't speak to the price but I can say that amount of miles is no issue IF the car has been properly maintained.

A - You can probably talk down the price.

B - It's high mileage, but not that high. You'll be fine. Even after 200k, you'll be fine.

the mileage is not too bad. if they drove it that much it's probably "highway miles" anyway. i would not pay that much if it's private party. one-owner, clean history at a dealer, maybe.

yeah, one-owner from the dealer. i didn't check the car history yet. would the dealer sell an accidented car? i thought that they could be sued pretty bad for stuff like that.

When i test drove it, the car was really shaking, as if i was driving on a gravel road with big rocks. I stopped the car and looked at the tire to see if there was an issue. i didn't see nothing, and went back on my way. it never did it again. At first i thought i thought the tires weren't balanced, but if that was the case, it woulda started shaking again on my way back to the dealer.

I'm in canada. The TL-S' here are hard to find. So I realize the prices are a little higher.......ok, maybe a lot higher.

I paid that for my 07 type s with 14,000 miles. I wouldn't pay more than 20 for that car.

anyways.. that is alot of miles for a car that is 2 yrs old..Maybe find another one around?

well, you can find them, it's just that they're limited, so the dealers have a bit more power cause they know the car is in demand. for example, there's this car: http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...0&adid=7616275. Now that's crazy!

i paid more than i wanted to for mine but i really had no leverage with the dealer since it was the exact one i wanted (08, NBP, type s, 6MT, with 14k miles) and there were literally no other ones like it in the entire country at the time (i looked on autotrader and cars.com)

but yes they will sell you a car that's been in an accident. it's as-is, so get the carfax report and inspect the car yourself. look for uneven gaps in the body work, that's usually a good clue that it's gotten a fender bent at some point. i watched the dealer check out my car when i traded it in, that's what he did. if it was ever totaled though they have to put a salvage sticker on the driver door (b-pillar i think).

i would test drive it again to see if it's still got the shakes. if it's been sitting around for a bit sometimes the tires will get a flat spot and it takes a few minutes of driving to get that worked out, more so if it's cold.

try to negotiate a bit like around 26 k, i think thats a good price, cose i saw a Type-s accidented for 27 k with 40,000 Km .

when the type-s was sold in montnreal it was around 42,000 $ some thing if i'm not wrong

Yeah and you would never get that car for 20K. 05 and 06 TL's with 50K plus miles are still going for 20K. Getting a 07 type S for 20K is not realistic yet even with 50,000 miles.
From my research I would say 25 is a reasonable price for that car if everything checks out well and has original paint (ie no accidents).



And to answer your question Tonton yes a dealer will sell a car thats been in an accident (not salvaged obviously). Make sure you check every body panel to see if it still has original paint.

I got my 07 type s from a private party in the bay area for 21.5k and the car had 49k miles. He was asking 22.8 but I managed to get it down to 21.5

It's a different market up here so what people paid in the U.S. is irrelevant. With that mileage, that price sounds about right looking at comparibles in Quebec & Ontario. I would still try to bargain down though...

With that said, I would much rather have a properly maintained higher mileage car than a low mileage neglected car...any day of the week.

Reliability wise, you dont have to worry. I redline every day, have quite a few mods, is a 2007, and drive my car like I stole it, and I have 108,XXX miles and no problems (knock on wood). If you take care of it, nothing happens.

But.... that price is too high for that one. Like others said, check out an auction.

When the car was new, i remember the dealerships here were quoting $49,000. $42k was for a regular TL and $45 for a TL with navi. To add insult to injury. That was when the Canadian dollar was better than the US dollar.

my thoughts on that is if you look around a little more you can find so much better, at dealerships. Cars.com would help you out a lot. The reliability is awesome ive owned hondas before there great, and same goes for acura, duh? the price is way to high though, just in my opinion.

I bought my 07 Type-S with around 44k miles CPO and reliability was the last on my list of concerns. It's a Honda so if you do your maintenance it should last forever. That price definitely sounds high to me, but I don't know anything about the Canadian market so I don't think I could give you advice either way. What I would consider, and maybe you could work this into the deal, is that the 60k mile service is coming up. I would find out if it's been done yet and if it hasn't, have the seller take care of that before you buy it as part of your negotiation.

That's a good idea. How much is the 60k mile service? What do they do to the car?

Um, off the top of my head it was engine air / cabin air filters, I did an oil & filter change, transmission fluid flush, coolant flush (I think), rotated tires, I changed the PCV valve, differential service if it's an MT. There may have been one or two other things in there, but the big one is the transmission service which is one of the most important things to maintain on these cars.

Edit: Pricing depends. I think the Acura dealership wanted like $750 for the service. I bought all of the parts / fluids myself other than the Honda ATF and I have a friend at the local Honda dealership so I did it for significantly less than that

Holy crap!!! your 07 has a 108,000 miles on it????? Where the hell do you drive? Thats like averaging 54,000 miles a year! I think you need to move a little closer to work lol.

That's quite a bit of stuff. But I'd have to bring the car to another garage to even be sure that they did all that stuff. I'm not a mechanic, so i don't think I'd be able to notice if it's been done on my own.

Do you absolutely HAVE to have a used TL-S?

What about a V6 Accord brand new or used with much fewer miles? I would not pay 25k (USD) for a 2 year old car with 60k miles... 20k or better. It's YOUR market right now.

I got my rare 2007 KBP Acura TL-S with 8,700 miles on it at the auction for $27,900. I wouldn't pay anything close to $25,000 with that many miles on it.

Look how much I got mine for at auction price with that many miles, clean title let alone in the Blue Pearl which is only on Type-S.

It took me a few months to get what I wanted but I got it. Just be patient my young padawan haha

I would not risk spending all that money and getting so many miles on the car. Most miles for that type of cash should be about 50k.

when I got my 02 CLS in 2006 it had 40K on it and cost me $15K. 3.5 years later it has 82K on it. and still looks very nice......

Have you considered getting a US vehicle? I'm not sure how Acura's warranty work on a US vehicle here in Canada but if you want a TL-S at a GOOD price; it might be worth doing the extra effort and bring it over.

Even with the current exchange rate; we still get screwed up in Canada on our prices.

If I could find a Type S with very high miles for a low price (marked at 20-22000ish) I would jump on it. Problem is I can't find anything like that around me.

Warranty is valid North America wide.
Problem with buying State-side is the crappy exchange and additional taxes, brokerage, shipping and other fees. When our dollar was at par or better with the US greenback, it made sense. Today....not so much, unless it's a rare car that's tough to find up here.
