Would you settle on a TL?

Hi everyone! I've been lurking on AZ for a couple months now while I've been looking for a new car. I started with a long list of cars and have since fallen in love with the styling of the 3G TL. The problem is, I live in an area where 07/08 TLs with decent milage within my budget are hard to find.

I found an 05 base TL under 100k kilometres, and looks to be in good shape. However, it's not exactly what I'm looking for, but is a pretty good option for now. I'd be happy with the 05, but am definitely willing to wait a while longer for an 07/08 to pop up.

What do you guys think? Has anyone gone from pre-07 to 07/08?

I am happy with my new to me 04 black/camel 6mt tl. Perfect coupled with my 94 black/black 6mt ls Legend ka8. I looked at quite a few TL's before purchasing this one with 161k, clean title, clean interior and exterior, six speed, and I paid $4,700. Most 07s and 08s were quite a bit higher. I wouldn't mind an 07-08, happy with the new 04 as well.

Well you cant really go wrong with either the 05 or 07/08, you'll save a lot more on the 05, that's for sure but trust me though....

....you will hate yourself every time you see a TL-S drive by.. especially knowing that could have been yours if you would have just been a bit more patient. It's up to you whether you care or not.

Like Tom said, if you really want a type S then hold out for one. A base 6MT '05 will be pretty nice as well if you find a well kept one.

07/08 just purely on transmission issues. i'd personally stay away from the 04-06's unless you're getting a MT.

Where in are you?

I've seen some TL-S' for sale in the low teens with higher KM of course

Found this one, seems a little too good to be true but worth a peak...

I'm located in Alberta so Ontario is definitely out of the question, but thanks for trying! I've seen a few TL-S in Calgary but most of them were floating in the 15-17k range with 140k+ km, last time I checked.

2008 Acura TL Type-S A-SPEC | used cars & trucks | Strathcona County | Kijiji

This one would be a great car for anyone else who is in the market for a new car though, just not for me

Unfortunately for me MT is out of the question as other members of my family aren't able to drive a manual, and might have to use my car on some occasions. I've read about the problems with the 04-06 transmissions, and it is a little worrying to see but I figure I might as well check out the 05 today and see if it can change my mind.

If that TL-S for 9K checks out, Ontario is a cheap flight away..

The price does seem too good to be true, which makes me wary. There have been quite a few prank postings for TL-S in Edmonton which have been extremely annoying...

I've been happy with my 06. Just rolled 82k, previous owner had dealer maintenance records including trans fluid changes and the switch to DW1, tb/WP services and new plugs when I bought it and i did a whole slew of maintenance after i got it as well. Obviously if a Type S popped up that was as clean as my 06 in a similar price range, I would've went for it but it wasnt that important to me. It depends what you're after though. If you have type S fever then be patient, eventually you'll find what you're after. If you just want a clean TL for a commuter then I would consider a clean 05-06.

Or a great drive. I drove from ATL, GA to Grand Rapids, MI to get my 08 TL-S. It was a 12+ hour drive but worth every second. Plus my dad and brother came made it a guys road trip.

Mos def, take your time. Took me over 6 months to find and get what I wanted.

On the other hand....TLs are cheaper and relatively more replaceable than wives/gfs.....(depending on the type of women of course...)

the 3G TL is still one of the finest cars on the road today, and compares pretty well in terms of performance to most of the newest cars today on market

Depends what you're comparing it too in terms of performance.

The new accords, camrys, maximas? Sure maybe? The new lexus, bmw, mercedes, jaguar, Cadillac, subies? Lol no.

Tl's are still gorgeous though, thats for sure. Especially the A-specs.

I checked out the 05 and it was in great condition. Ended up paying 9000 for it, with full sets of summer and winter tires thrown in.

I took everyone's suggestions and thought pretty carefully. I figured that since I didn't stretch my budget it'll leave room for unexpected costs or cosmetic mods. It fit my budget and gives me a head start on upgrading in the future if the thought ever crosses my mind.

OP.

Damn, those headlights look brand spanking new. I wonder if they are OEM??

I'm guessing those are the winter wheels that are on it right now?

Thanks everyone

Yes, I've got the winters on right now and will unfortunately have to stay on until mid-May (as is tradition up here where I live...). The rims are just some beaters that the previous owner found somewhere

The headlight housing is OEM if I recall correctly from the previous owner saying. He just switched out the DRLs with LEDs instead.

I have a 06 TL and I love it soo much. It did have some problems when I first bought it. But a little bit of time and money those problems are now fixed. and the car drives like a dream.

things that were wrong with my car.

All the o2 sensors were bad.
I changed the thermostat just cause
fixed the power steering leak (not from the hoses but from the rack an pinion boot
new front tires
needed new 2 lower control arms for the front wheels.

Car used to get 230 Miles per tank
now it gets 310 before the gas light even turns on. )

I've heard guys that have had success and swear by seafoam...personally, if run high quality premium fuel you don't need the seafoam...

google "seafoam acurazine" and you'll find threads devoted to it...

PLEASE, pics of legends?! haha. My first car was a legend, I loved the damn thing. 94 GS black/tan automatic. Bought it with a BHG, repaired it and drove it til it was totaled That and the TL are what made Acura noteworthy for me.

I'd say go with the one that's currently available I did that with an 03 cl and honestly was so happy I did, you will never be let down by an Acura man, atleast go and look at it if it's truly as nice as they say I say go for it ! good luck man !
