Window tint on 3G TL - Who didnt get moleskin?

Wanted to see the number of ppl that have their windows tinted and never got a moleskin kit added to prevent scratching of the tint. For those of you that have tint w/o moleskin have you noticed any scratches or unusual wear?

thanks

I will definitely advise you to get moleskin as the TL has a tight trim molding that will cause scratches if you don't get moleskin. You will want to do this right the first time or later you will regret and might need to retint.

Started out with no moleskin - no issues. Got some for very cheap, installed it - had some water retention issues so I removed it.

Been about 5 years and no scratches on the tint.

Can't you just go back and get them redone? I thought most tints come with lifetime warranty?

Mine were installed by the previous owner but they are all scratched up and look like crap from up close. I'm going to guess he didn't pay the extra for it.

The guy that did mine charged me for moleskin and never installed it. When I returned to have him redo my car, he was out of business.

I went with moleskin just to be safe. its really cheap and easy to install. my only complaint is that when it gets hot, some glue from the moleskin streaks onto the window.

Didn't do it, wished I would have...my TL-S is hardly driven bought it new, it's an 08 and only has 6500 miles on it, my windows have literally only been rolled down a few dozen times and I got scratches like a mother****er, I would SERIOUSLY suggest getting it done before the tint, my car is garaged and hardly ever dirty so I know its not from neglect or anything like that, I live too close to work for me to even bother driving my car to work so its at this point merely a pleasure vehicle, and I love it dearly but get pissed when I see my window tint scratches...its only the back windows, hows everyones elses windows look, only the back, front or both?????
Eventually going to get them re-done but heard mixed results like glue etc with the moleskin??????

Same here, 07 with 8,300 miles and scratches. I had the car tinted the 1st day off the lot. I didn't do any research so I had no idea I needed them.

I had my tints redone because of scratches on all window tints. I installed moleskin and no more scratches. I highly recomend doing this, its a real easy DIY and only costs $6 for the moleskin and about two hours of your time.

I bet you you cut the moleskin to fit the top and bottom rubber separately. If you install the single strip over both the bottom and top robber you should get rid of glue streaks. This happened to me and I had to install it again to fix it.

I've got scratches up and down my tint, but I look at it this is way: it adds character. No biggie to me. I'm the only one who has ever made mention of it. I suppose I ought to clean up the juice splatters from my daughters though. That just looks messy.

i got the protector from the tint guy and it fell off about 3 months later, causing glue streaks which i still cannot remove. i just tore the whole strip off, it was causing too much glue streak.

I did cut it in half that beacuse i read somewhere that it was the best way to do it. for now ill probably just take some goo-gone and clean the windows every once in a while and eventually put on some new moleskin

I had a little bit of glue on the rear driver side window, but clean it off with some goo gone. Only cleaned it a couple of times and then the remaining glue will dry up and you don't need to clean no more. Get the moleskin for sure or you will be sorry later when you get scratches.

I have had my tint for over 3 years and have a couple vertical scratches on the driver's rear window. The passenger rear window is OK and both front windows are good too. I don't open my windows much in hopes of reducing the scratching potential- use the Sunroof all the time instead.

The first time I had the shop do my tint and when I did my first roll down a week later had scratches all over my windows. Later found out about moleskin and added that and had the shop redo my tint for free. I still got scratches but not as much. Oh well, I just said F it, no one else notices it. Haha

PEACE!

not even a year with my tint and my fronts have vertical scratches. not to many but, enough on my passenger side to kind of obstruct my view of side mirror.

I ordered some moleskin so after i put it on im getting my front tints re-done.

The backs are fine. Could be since i rarely open the rear windows.

I didn't get it installed... No scratches for the first few months and then they just started appearing. Most people don't notice the scratches but I sure do. It drives me crazy and I know that I'll end up getting them redone at some point... with the moleskin...

I have had 35% tints for the last 2.5yrs. No moleskin. When I initially got them placed, I didn't roll my window down for 5days.

It still looks good after 2.5yrs. There are some fine scratches on the drivers side but it's not very noticeable.

I've got 35% on mine and have a couple scratches on it, if you can get it I'd recommend it. The scratches I have are very very thin and you can't see them unless you look for it closely.

Or you can just take your finger across the felt window guard and make sure no sand or debris is in there. Every now and then I'll do that to make sure there's nothing resting on that felt thing that rests against the window

I didn't put the moleskin on my car. For the first few months, nothing... But over time, the driver's side front window and passenger front window are all scratched up. the back two aren't very scratched up, as I rarely roll them down. It doesn't bother me personally. At least not enough to pay $200 to have my tints redone.

when i got my tints i didnt have moleskin. second day scratches on both front windows.. i used the moleskin everyone talks about and then the glue started appearing. very annoying having glue all over window i took it off and just used a role of craft felt( i got at craft store ) and wrapped it around the weather strip. it works great and is tightly in the door

still looks good = no scratches

no moleskin = scratches will vary in size and length

your not supposed to cut the moleskin which is why you had glue streaks.

i was actually thinking if moleskin will hold up during the different seasons we have here in NY.

I have a feeling i'll be visitng your DIY link very soon. =)
