Hate to bring up old threads but, my the transmission on my 06 tl is going out as well. I'm always reading things about 05 and/or 04 tl only and never seeing anything about 06. My question is, will the 06-07 accord transmission fit into the 06 tl as Well?

Yes, the 2006-2007 AV6 transmission will fit 3G TLs years 2004-2006.

07-08 TL transmissions are different.

Only the Accord V6 trans works with the 04-06 TL.

Will '04 auto transmission fit in an '06 acura tl

The auto transmission went out in my girlfriends 06 acura tl auto I was sold a used 04 auto transmission with 50k on it and a 90 day warranty I was told the 04 tl transmission fit in an 06 but my mechanic is saying there isn't a place to mount it properly at the top and the shop I bought It from is saying it's an unnecessary mounting area that some kind of actuator goes there and is not needed in the 06. I've tried to research it but I'm not finding the right info. Is there a conversion mount or something. As I'm looking this issue up I'm seeing tl auto transmissions for sale that fit 04-08 so I would think they are interchangeable. So will an 04 tl transmission go into an 06 tl. Thank you for reading.

I'm not sure what to do now. My mechanic is saying it won't fit that it will fall out. He says something the top/front mount there's no way to attach it. And the place I bought the transmission is saying the 04 won't fit in an 06. Can anyone send me a link showing where the 04 will go into an 06? Anything that i can show him that it will work? Bc I've got conflicting responses from local shops. I'm not sure where to go from here. I dunno if my mechanic is an idiot or the trans place gave me the proper model transmission so I can compare, the acura dealer says they have different part numbers so he doesn't think it will fit. I'm lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I searched on hondaacuraonline.com & the torque converter housing that bolts to the motor is the same from 04-06.

https://www.hondaacuraonline.com/oem...QtYXV0b21hdGlj

However the case on the 06' is in fact different than the 04-05.

https://www.hondaacuraonline.com/oem...dXRvbWF0aWM%3D

Only option instead of a new transmission would be to swap your old case onto the 06' transmission.

Good luck.

how does it feel compared to the original? How smooth is it compared? Can you give us description of how Gear ratio fees in all ways possible? We would all thank you I’m at 142k 05 TL and the tranny is fantastic, however, I know someday it’s gonna blow. And I’ve been super curious about how the accord trans feels on the TL. Thanks.

So, I have been without the 05 TL since mid Dec. I can't recall exactly how it was for a more through comparison but seems very similar. I nailed the gas today and seemed to have same pickup and shift through the gears good. Will have to play around with it more to get a better idea on the weekend. If I recall correctly, I thought I saw a post where someone stated the gear ratio's for the TL vs the AV6 and thought there were pretty much identical except for maybe 1 gear. AV6 trans is using its pressure switches so no idea if there is a difference here in the shifting pattern but most likely there is since the TL's pressure switches have been updated since , for the '05, and thought either the 3rd or 4th gear had a more rounded or longer shift pattern so not as abrupt.

My 05 trans was 100% original (pressure switches, etc) until a week before it went bad. Had just under 153,000 miles. I saw my trans fluid was a little low and I added some but i couldn't recall the last time I had it changed. I was also having a whining noise on startup. Car is outside in the cold. Went away if I let the car warm up for 5min. Brought it to dealer for 3x3, since I got the mgr to do it at cost of a 1x trans fluid change. They told me noise was coming from torque converter. They did the 3x3 and changed the trans filter. They told me it was a matter of time. Well that day came a few days later. Looking back, the 3x3 probably is what ended up killing it. The old fluid is probably what was holding it together.

Is there any write up if everything and does the cv spline match etc.

Nobody has said they won't fit, the transmission from a 2004-2006 will definitely fit your 2002. The question is why would you bother? If you're going to go through the time and expense of a transmission swap, you might as well put a good one in there, and by that I mean a transmission from a 2006-2007 Accord V6, otherwise known as a BAYA or AV6 transmission.

It appears you *want* to make it work. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time, buy the proper transmission for your car.

JDM Transmission Options for 2006 TL

Thank you all for the info on the 2006-7 Accord AV6 swap into 2004-06 TL. My trans in my 06 TL quit on me(Code 40) Friday morning. I’ve looked all over the DFW area for this 06-07 Accord AV6, and they want crazy money for one with 140,000+ miles or if it’s in a pull it yourself yard, someone has removed the dipstick or some sensor and allowed water to get into it. I know water in a automatic Honda, even for a short time is a recipe for disaster. I’ve seen a few ads for low mileage JDM transmissions being offered for the the V6 powered 06-07 Accord and can’t help but wonder if one of these would work for my 06 TL. Any info or thoughts on this would be appreciated.

While the JDM tranny would probably work, it is not the AV6/BAYA transmission as that unit was only produced in the United States.

Possible AV6/BAYA exported to Japan?

I hear ya. So I take it that you don’t think it is possible that some AV6/BAYA transmissions got export from here to Japan? And in turn are coming back as JDM transmissions? I know it sounds crazy and maybe even wishful thinking, but it was just a thought. I mean, who would have guessed when Toyota quit making the Supra it would be this long before they sold another one or that it would be built by BMW.
Also, could anyone explain to me or point me in the right direct of the info of the differences in between the BAYA and the MAYA? I appreciate ya.
The transmission in my 06 TL took a dumb on me, so hopefully I’ll be able to find a good AV6/BAYA today. Ndnw

I know that I’m going to go ahead and change the o-ring on the converter I got from the Accord as from what I’ve read on the forums you have to use the Accord TC. But neither the TL FSM or any of the forums discussing the av6 to TL swap mention this metal ring. What I need to know is whether or not to move this metal ring over? I’ve got the transmission out of the TL and so a timely response from someone who has done this swap would be appreciated. Also, should I change the axle and input shaft seals? I’ve got new ones here, so I probably will. Last question. Has anyone ever heard of the drive plate breaking in a circle about the same size as the crankshaft flange that you mount the drive plate on in 06 TL? After
pulling the trans and taking a break, I decided I’d check the rear main seal. That is when noticed it was broke all the way around. I had pulled the codes and got a code 40 which is basically a smoking gun with the TL that the trans is done due to the a TC. Now I’m questioning if the trans was even the issue. I’m stil going to swap AV6 into the car.

Metal shim on 06 TL tc shaft?

O6 TL tc

Shim from 06 TL tc

06 TL tc

07 Accord BAYA tc doesn’t have this shim.

Another shot of the 07 Accord BAYA tc.

So after pulling the trans from my 2006 TL, I pulled the TC off to see if the input shaft seal had been leaking. What I found on the 06 TL tc is what looks like metal shim. Do I transfer that to the AV6 BAYA tc? I personally removed removed the trans from the 07 Accord and I am fairly certain the BAYA did not have this shim. I’d appreciate it if any you have info on this. Thank you in advance fine people of Acurazine!

When I swapped my 03 TL transmission with an 06 Accord transmission, I used a TC for a 06 Accord. There were no shims on either converter. The original TL transmission was rebuilt locally at one time so I'm assuming they didn't use any shims either. I don't have a lot of miles on my swap, maybe 30 miles or so but I don't have any problems.

No, the 2007 and 2008 transmission is unique to but a few cars, the TL being chief among them. The good news is your transmission has the same upgrades as the AV6 transmission.

There aren't any Accord transmissions which will fit your car. Even if there were, you wouldn't want one, the H5 automatic transmission for the 2007 and 2008 TL were the best of the H5s available. If you're having issues with your transmission, your best bet is to have it rebuilt/remanufactured, or replaced with a used unit from another 2007-2008 TL.
