When should I change timing belt? (TL 05)
I have a 2005 Acura TL automatic. It currently has 112,000 miles on it and I was told by the dealership that I need to replace timing belt. Is this something that needs to be done immediately or could I wait a little longer. When did y'all replace your timing belt?

Yeah you are due.. It's basically 105k miles/7 years. You can probably be fine going a little longer but not sure what you are thinking by how much longer. I personally wouldn't let it go too much longer.

As stated, 105k/7 years is Acura's recommended time. My car wasn't done until 135k (accidentally by PO) but things were still in pretty good shape when pulled apart. That said, 105k is recommended for a reason, and I'd trust Acura on that.

Ummm... Yes. Look at the attached. It is 105k or 7 years. I have gone well past the 7year mark but a lot of this depends on conditions you drive in and if the climate it is subjected to

Our Acura manuals do not state that. Is that for an Accord?
Edit- seems like that is from an Accord. It even discusses using regular unleaded gas.

recently just saw a 10 years old TB change in my mom Accord, I took the old belt and yes hairline crack start to develop on the inside of the belt. We bought the car back in 05 at 110k (previous owner has dealer receipt TB replace at 98k miles back in 05) and the car now has 150k miles. BTW the car spending all its life in CT.

It could be..I guess in the end it just depends on environmental factors. Just like the TL manual you included shows in severe conditions replace at 60k but still no actual time interval. The thing is, the MID doesn't have any way of telling the condition of the belt. Maybe it does have a counter that it uses for the time factor but not sure. I've gone 14 years on the OEM belts on other V6 Acuras and they were still fine, however I was not near 105k miles

For the '06 Acura TL, the owner's manual has the same Maintenance Minder schedule as shown in ggesq's photo of the manual page above, except the schedule is on page 213 of the 2006 manual: http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/p...606O00208A.pdf.
There is no mention of 105K or 7 years for timing belts on the '04-'08 TL-- there is no such recommendation by American Honda or Acura for the 3G TL because that and most other service schedules were replaced by the Maintenance Minder program communicated to the driver through the MID.

There's got to be some type of schedule, either one that's a manual log or one that indicates what needs to be done e.g. the MID.
The brake fluid flush isn't on the MID and without that service designation, how many people even bother changing the fluid?
What do you suggest to use as a guide? An educated guess?
I've got to keep a manual log as the TL only sees @ 3k/year, so by resetting the MID early, the maintenance symbols never appear.

That's a stupid reply!

105,000-MILE TUNE-UP INTERVALS
With long-lasting components like platinum-tipped spark plugs and a space-saving, self-tensioning serpentine accessory drive belt, the TL is an exceptionally low maintenance automobile. It requires no scheduled maintenance until 105,000 miles, other than periodic inspections and normal fluid and filter replacements. This first tune-up includes water pump inspection, valve adjustment, and replacement of the cam-timing belt and sparkplugs.

Bought my 05 in 2011 with 90k on it. Just did tb this weekend at 165k. Not gonna say it looked great, but wasn't horrible either. I paid about $300 for tb kit with water pump, 2g fluid, and new serpentine belt. Took about 8hr, but could probably half that now knowing the process.

No, changing the timing belt will not bring back any lost performance. If you had the valves adjusted, new spark plugs put it, and other belts/pullies replaced along with it then it is possible you will see a small difference when starting the vehicle and under lighter loads when accelerating.
