Hey guys,

I bought my 04 TL with 103k miles on the clock. A little over a year later with a lot of spirited driving to/from my school, I'm at 118k. Aside from oil changes, I haven't had to do anything to it, and it's running as strong as ever! It's impressive to see how well these cars can handle the rough commute of a rushed college schedule!

Hi everyone! Checking in at 214k, on my 05 6MT. It's starting to require some money, which is sad, but I plan on keeping the car until I see 350-400k on it. I'm confident the engine will make it! I just recently experience an utter, terrible lower ball joint failure on my front passenger corner. I'm VERY glad it failed at 5mph pulling into a gas station, rather than on the highway where I was going to be 5 minutes later. Likely would have totalled the car. The ball join failure slammed the car into that side axle, which unfortuantely was the GOOD axle, and not the one that's clicking/ vibrating on me. So I have to have that issue diagnosed and hopefully it's just replacing the other driveshaft, and I'm still in desperate need of a new suspension. I'll just use ASPEC struts if I can find them, I need my ride height unfortunately. I recently graduated university, and as soon as I have a job I'm going to dumo a few grand into the car to ensure it lives for another few hundred thousand miles!

2007 TL W/ Navi, Auto..
Bought it in '08 ish with 32k miles on clock... Now at 145k.. Only main problem was the HFL unit dieing and us spending a fair amount of money... I think 2k, on getting it diagnosed and repaired (Took 3 mechanics, a few nights to testing, and two HFL units). Runs fine now.

04 6speed in silver here. Wrote into this thread about a year and a half ago when I bought the car at 129,000. Just about to reach 150,000. Problems between there and here included:

Dash cracked at the pass air bag, and then cracked some more, then above the gauge cluster it cracked too. A shitload of paint chips occurred on the front bumper which I just painted in. The AC went out for a bit because of the fuse. Also the fuse for the mirrors went out twice. Now my memory seats only work when they feel like it or it never "remembers" the settings but I dont use it anyways, I replace the trans fluid every 10,000 miles because it likes to start to stick after some miles but I think thats normal. Overall just about every single thing works except for some minor bulbs and the HFL since I bought it.

This is extremely NOT normal. What fluid are you using? The only reported MT/fluid issue I know of is the 2/3 synchro grind. Look for the GM Synchromesh thread. Make sure it says friction modified. If it's getting sticky it may have a lot of gunk in there and may take a while to see a difference if it ever gets resolved. I change mine about every 50-60k, but I don't really hammer the gear box very often.

Just passed 140K, and the transmission started slipping big time on the way home Saturday, no warning. Bought it new so got good use for almost 13 years. Going to see the tranny guy this week. Hoping nothing serious.

New to this forum, just got a 06 about a month ago, with 141,000 miles. It's now about to pass 143,000 miles. I'm very pleased with this tl as my daily commuter.

Also new here. Bought my 07 5AT 3.2 w/Nav in March '16 with almost 159k, now just passing 167k. So far other than some issues with tires related to potholes and a nail from the crappy roads around here and the stupid OEM Acura battery crapping out on me on a hot day and corroding everything, the car has been perfect.

Just did the Stage 1 exhaust mod last week. It sounds amazing. Highly recommended.

2006 TL bought 6 months ago with 88K, now have 93K on it. Plan to keep until 200K or so. My trusted mechanic agrees this is feasible.

Before I bought this it had the timing belt, water pump, new battery all done. I've replaced the brakes, had the brake lines and power steering flushed. Tire shopping in the next few weeks.
Thinking of just getting Michelin - Pilot Sport A/S 3+ since Costco has such a screaming deal, and I have the regular Pilots on currently.

Seems like these cars run forever regardless of mileage. I hit 159k on my 04. Curious to see how some of the older TL's start aging. my TL which I got in feb of 04 doesnt seem to show any signs new signs of age.

Just wanted to say that I bought mine with 188K and now I am at 193K and I bought mine about 6 months ago also, and I'm sure yours will last past 200K. I am slowly reaching it, going to do the timing belt soon as well, It was previously done at 100k-ish. I have Bridgestone Potenza's on mine, they have not caused any problems in the past 5500 miles, planning to get Michelin's after this set. Keep up the good maintenance and it will last well past 200K.
Good luck to your TL !

2005 TL going strong @ 157K

Folks,

I got my 2005 TL new and have been *very* happy with it overall. Currently at 157K

PROBLEMS FIXED ALONG THE WAY
1) Tranny rebuilt at 116K Apr 2014. This despite the fact that I religiously change tranny oil every 30K and it comes out clean without any clues that tranny was going south. I do see minimal fuzz on the magnetic drain plug but no chunks or nothing noteworthy. I had the pressure switches changed @ ~100K but that did not keep the tranny from going south. I've concluded that there is simply a design flaw and the tranny oil changes & pressure switch changes were a waste of $$. Every 60K for tranny oil change was probably fine.
2) Bluetooth module died. Acura wanted $800. I lived without it for a while. Then bought the part online for ~$250 & had my body shop put it in for ~$50.
3) Power steering pump died. Replaced at ~116K mi.
4) DVD Navi drive died. Currently in repair. Fortunately I have reputable local electronics shop that does 20 of these a week. Its costing me $500 which is more than a used unit on Ebay (~$350) but I want the peace of mind with the 1yr warranty that the local shop offers.

QUIBBLES
1) Dash cracked. It looks bad. I might get a dash cover to hide it.
2) Steering wheel leather is worn. It looks bad. Not worth the $$ to replace
3) Small coolant fluid leak. I keep topping it off every 6 months. At some point I'll look into it and see if radiator needs to be replaced.
4) Seats looks their age. I wish there was an inexpensive replacement seat cover. OEM prices are not worth it.

CONCERN
1) Tranny sometimes does not engage immediately when switching from reverse to drive (particularly on an incline). I'm not going to worry about it for now but am keeping an eye on it. Comments on this issue appreciated.

WHAT I'M IMPRESSED BY
1) Drives like NEW !!! I did put in new brake rotors & tires. Most reliable car I've had yet. Plan is to keep it for another 4 yrs / 250 K
2) Touch screen Navi is really nice. I think Acura hit the sweet spot with this model and its gone downhill of late. We just test drove 2016 and 2017 MDX (for wifey) and while I love the new car interior I like my 2005 Navi MUCH better
3) Aftermarket install of a back-up camera worked out flawlessly. I paid a local shop ~$700
4) Engine is still QUIET. I switched to changing engine oil every 15K miles (using Mobil 1 extended synthetic oil which is rated for 15K miles). I've used MI110 filters since the very first oil change.

Didnt see this for a long time sorry. About that, I am using honda ATF, I got the car at 130,000 did a change then, did one at 140,000 and will do one at 150,000, thatll be my way of doing a long term 3x3 ha. I dont think the guy that had it before me changed it more than 2 or 3 times, ever. The sticking isnt nearly as bad as you think, it doesnt effect drivability really. If it happens I hit 2nd real quick and 1st opens up again. If its still like that at 160,000 I think I will try the Syncromesh. Shit is praised like a transmissexual god on here. I think first sticking a bit on a car with 150,000 miles can be considered normal wear. The other TL I drove with MT had 180,000 and couldnt hold 3rd after driving it ten minutes...

Update @ 161K

Folks,

Updated with $$ spent to date against each item. I got my 2005 TL new and have been *very* happy with it overall. Currently at 161K

PROBLEMS FIXED ALONG THE WAY
1) $2000. Tranny rebuilt at 116K Apr 2014. 2) $350. Bluetooth module died. Acura wanted $800. I lived without it for a while. Then bought the part online for ~$250 & had my body shop put it in for ~$50.
3) $???. Power steering pump died. Replaced at ~116K mi.
4) $700 Aftermarket install of a back-up camera worked out flawlessly. Great upgrade. Image is crystal clear on NAV screen.
5) $500. DVD Navi drive repaired at local electronics shop.
6) $2000. Steering rack replaced (was losing power steering fluid) + engine mounts replaced

QUIBBLES
1) Dash cracked. It looks bad. I might get a dash cover to hide it.
2) Steering wheel leather is worn. It looks bad. Not worth the $$ to replace
3) Small coolant fluid leak. I keep topping it off every 6 months. Diagnosed and fixed for $0 (small hose had a leak).
4) Seats looks their age. I wish there was an inexpensive replacement seat cover. OEM prices are not worth it. Looked at aftermarket seats for TL. Still too expensive.
5) A couple of lights in the NAV module dont work (example passenger side temp control) but this I can live with.

CONCERN
1) Tranny sometimes does not engage immediately when switching from reverse to drive (particularly on an incline). I'm not going to worry about it for now but am keeping an eye on it. Comments on this issue appreciated.

WHAT I'M IMPRESSED BY

We test drove 2016 and 2017 MDX (for wifey) and while I love the new car interior I like my 2005 Navi MUCH better. We just bought a 2017 Audi Q7 with a customizable 13.2" in-dash OLED display. That's the only thing I've come across that beats the TL's display.
3) Engine is still QUIET. I switched to changing engine oil every 15K miles (using Mobil 1 extended synthetic oil which is rated for 15K miles). I've used MI110 filters since the very first oil change.

BOTTOM LINE
Very happy with this car. What I've spent is fairly typical for a car this age and I have no regrets. Anyone who tells you that they've run their car to 150K+ and not had any expenses is not credible in my opinion.

Cheers,

2007 Acura TL base model - 109k miles

1. Timing belt package done!
2. Front bushings replaced
3. Power steering leak resealed. I don't need a new one.

Other than that, I bought the car in Dec 2012 with only 57k miles and has been running like a champ with no major issues. I plan on keeping my car to at least 250k miles easily. I owe 4700 on it and hopefully it will be paid off a year from now!

Update: Bought my 2004 in April 2016 with 84k miles, as of Jan 19, 2017 she sits at 111k miles. Only maintenance has been oil changes, tires, the common power steering pump gasket, EGR valve, and replaced the FACTORY air filter and cabin air from 2004 (Crazy I know). She purrs like a kitten and I won't be getting rid of her anytime soon

Bought my '04 in October of 2003. About 66k miles on it now, still going strong. My son drives it daily to and from school.

Most expensive repair was replacing burnt out light bulbs in the steering wheel controls. I can't think of any non-warranty repairs other than that.

Bought my 2006 TL a week ago with 59k on it after much research before purchasing. I love this car so far! I am hoping to keep this for another 200k as I am coming from owning a 1998 Civic for the past 14 years which had 205k on it. Thanks to everyone for all of the great information here. I am enjoying learning from this community and look forward to many to come!

'04 TL 214k

I have an '04 with 214k that I use as my daily driver. Previous owner hadn't even done the power steering whine fix. I just did. Worked exactly as advertised. Car drives great...so far.

Use genuine Honda/Acura fluids when you do trans. Very important!

ummm....yeah...thanks. I have done all of the service on this car for the last 10 years. Would not dream of putting any other in....that is why it has 240,000.

Great to hear about folks racking up the miles on their 3G TL's!

I'm a noob to Acura and the platform and so welcome any and all advice for maintenance. Only 6 weeks into owning an '07 TL base, now with 61,5XX miles on the clock (about 1k of those are mine), but I plan on daily-ing this vehicle for another 8-10 more years.

According to pre-purchase service records:
-oil and filter changed every 5k miles
-power steering hoses and lines (recall issue) replaced at 27k miles
-rear brake pads replaced at 29k miles
-timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, air filter, cabin filter, coolant, drive belts, power steering and brake fluids were all replaced at 52k miles
-lower control arm bushings and power steering pump replaced at 55k miles
-front motor mount and (leaking) left front strut replaced at 60k miles

Since buying it with 60.5k miles on the ODO, I've:
-replaced the factory original battery (from 2007!)
-replaced front pads and rotors
-did a 1x drain-and-fill of the ATF (next one scheduled after another 1k miles)
-replaced all 4 OEM rims (2 of which were out of round) with reps of 10-spoke starfish

Looking forward to hearing more tales of longevity!! Cheers!

Sorry for the obvious info. As an experienced owner, I'm sure you know. What is your opinion on Redline brand ATF? I have read other owners singing their praises about the product. Something about quicker shifts. I would be interested in your take on it.

Quick Reply: What's the mileage on your 3G? Still going strong?
