Angry VIBRATION while Car is Idling

This is getting to be very annoying and disheartening,
A brand new car should not feel this way.
Every time i am at a red light with my foot on the break i can
feel a vibration on my seat,i dont know if its from the engine or
tranny or what, but it is bothering the heck out of me.
should it not be still and quiet? although the vibration is slight,
i dont think there should be any at all..

what do you guys think? any experiance the same?
Thanks.

Mine's so quiet I'm not sure the engines running. I was sitting in the car the other day showing a friend all the gadgits and forgot the engine was running. Grinded the starter trying to start it when it was already running.

Auto or 6MT, Frankkie? This might help some folks make a determination.

Mine has a very rough idle as well.. with and without the A/C on so it's not just that. I recall from my 00 TL that it was glass smooth, this one is awful. Yet another ick with the new car. I wonder if it was due to my check engine light problems early on. I did get new coil packs and spark plugs and a new crank position sensor, but I wonder if I need the ECU firmware upgrade.

I get the same thing...usually when it's cold outside and have the climate control on. It vibrates a bit when idle.

I live in Ny,so it is pretty cold here right now, aside from
the first few mins of starting the car,i still feel a slight
amount of vibration when idling, even after a half hour
of driving the streets.. I dont get it? i have 450 miles on
the car.. I ask my friend who sat in the passenger seat
and he said,he didnt really feel it,but i feel it.

If the rough idle last more than a minute or two during the morning I would have it checked out. It might be a faulty injector oxigen sensor or something in that vein. Usually if there is any problem with the fuel system the check engine light will come on.

No Vibes

I live in Toronto where it can get quite cold. I find the car surprisingly smooth even when its very cold. I haven't tried it when its bone cold though, but my '01 TL idled roughly too. I wonder if Canadian cars are spec's differently.

Mine was vibrating on startup as well - until I tuned to a less bass-intensive XM station

Hopefully it's just the car warming up...

Unhappy

Mine does it too...It almost feels like its going to stall. It does it even after its been running for a while. I also have trouble starting it sometimes...like an old car with carborator problems...very strange. I highly doubt the weather has anything to do with it. I live in south florida and the coldest its been since i bought it has been 60 degrees.

BTW, I have a 5AT, Navi

Someone here said starting takes a little but because it has to "map" the engine.. thast is why you have to hold the key in start for a little while (longer than other cars I have noticed).

I guess I'll try that, though it seems more like a mechanical problem to do with fuel delivery rather than anything electronic.

I actually have tried about 4 different types of gas. My cousin bought his TL 1 week after me and he has the same problem.

What kind of vibration is it? The whole body shaking or just some minor sway you feel from your leather seat? Will the passenger seat and rear seats feel it too?

And, it's only happen in idle, RPM at 700?

Thanks.

If it is an automatic trans car, it might be a slight engagement of the torque converter and is not really a problem. Time and wear may make it go away. I've seen this in several different makes of cars. If it's a manual though this would not be the case. Also, this would not make the car "nearly stall".

I am not sure if the car is "actually" going to stall it just has that vibration like a sudden loss of RPM and it "feels" like its going to stall. It may be the torque converter like you said but I am pretty sure the RPMs do not need a sudden drop to the level they do, after sitting at a light for 30 seconds or more...

If so, I do feel some minor vibration in the same spot sometimes, I think it's not so serious quake though, anyway I'll ask my dealer on this Friday, hope they would give me some useful info to you.

It feels like just a really rough idle, which is so odd for Honda, with their single and double balancing shafts in most engines. I have heard that it could be the bump in compression up to 11:1 can make it a little harsher, but I still believe there is something unbalanced. It does it at idle, not on the break, in park, or at a light on the break, it's just not a smooth idler. I'm going to mention it in the shop but I'm sure I'll get the "within specifications" answer.

Sherlock,

Good luck, I hope they can give you the satisfing solutions.

As what I said above, my TL would feel some similar vibration in the stop before the engine reach the proper working temp and before the idle RPM drops down to the normal level.

Noticed it on today's first drive. I let it ilde for a couple of minutes, but it was still there. After driving a mile or so, when I reached a stop sign & checked it was gone...

I have noticed the same issue. It's not major, but compared to my '99 TL (even today) it's a bit rough. It's not so bad that I'm worried. Will most likely wait until I need an oil change to have the dealer give it a check.

FYI ~ I've heard this could be due to the new low emmisions control system. It 'allegedly' takes longer for the motor to warm up and run smoothly. This is just due to 'newer technology'!?

I wish I could be satisfied with all the statements of warmup, but it does it anytime of the day, warm or cold.

Do you have issues with check engine light ON or vibrations at 50 MPH? Thanks...

Also, crazymaxe just reminded me of your history. Are they relevant?
