Uhh, did I just mess up my service light cycle?
Sup all, I figured out how to turn off that annoying service message on my last oil change... Recently I got my "A13 Due Soon" with 15% oil life... So I reset it while dropping my gf home tonight, expecting the service due now light to come on after the oil life went down a little more, but now my oil life is back to 100%
I put in synthetic last oil change so I am not ready to change it yet... and now it looks like the car thinks I did my A13, and is counting down to my next service
If I repeat the reset procedure I get a B service coming soon message that disappears when I turn off the car off and back on.. Now is there a way to reset my oil life only? Any one else run into this problem?

Just follow the maintenance schedule that they provide you. You don't need a computer to really tell you when and what service is due. The maintenance schedule should have the type of service require depending on mileage.

Not to mention the oil life monitor probably does a much better job of estimating the oil life than the owner can since it keeps track of temperature, cold starts/warm starts, RPM's, Time, Mileage, etc. Not many owners pay attention to most of those things.
And if you DO follow the dealer "maintenance schedule", you'll end up paying for a lot of service the engineers who designed the car did not see the need for.
So, once more for the :noobs:, I will post links to the various manuals since many used cars do not include them:

hope my questions are related enough to this thread.
First time use of synthetic oil on my TL. The shop put a reminder sticker to come back at around 7500 miles. After about 5000 miles driven, the MID is now telling me to get an oil change.
1. Synthetic oil is supposed to last longer than non synthetic one?
2. If so, should I reset the MID or just let it be like that for another 2500 miles?

1. Yes, synthetic lasts longer and you should always use synthetic in your vehicles from now on! To put it short, it'll help your engine last longer.
2. Whatever you prefer. The important thing is to make sure you keep track of your miles to change the oil. You don't want to experience oil sludge:
A Mercedes owner's son exceeded his last oil change by almost 50,000 miles. Not to scare you because synthetic can last about 10,000-12,000 miles per change (based on your driving habits), but those are the consequences.

How do you miss an oil change by 50,000 miles
That's just ridiculous.

A more appropriate question is how he managed to go 50,000 miles with wax-consistency fluid running in his car! The mechanic described the oil filter as a crayon texture. These are some tough engines, but sad to say that this one is going to the junk yard.
