2004 TL MT was 1 out of 20
2008 TL-S MT was 1 out of 40
2012 TL MT was 1 out of 100

When Navi was optional in the MT is was somewhere between 1 out 2 and 1 out of 4.

I could be wrong, but some of the rarer models are the 2004 Green/Tan MT with navi and the 2012 White MT. In the TL-s I would guess the blue is the rarest. This based on my hunting them down.

Honestly I do not believe it is so far fetch'd. I am sure if you checked the record of check in's, and this is probably the highest traffic 3g site. Otherwise you could do the same test, go into the check in's from end of 06' and see how many TL-S were purchased. Even with the liars I am sure there have not been a 1000 users on here which actually own the 3g type S.

It is a fairly expensive vehicle, and prices have hardly just dropped at the 4-5 year mark with lease returns n such. So why produce so many and destroy the market based on value. The more limited a vehicle is the more expensive it will be, pure basic economics. Also the reason why I purchased my own, because it will compound value better based on being exclusive.

With all the info I have found I just cant see those numbers being right honestly...I think there would have to be at 6K each year if not more honestly because here lately I have seen at least 10 in my area alone and now of at least 10 more that are for sale on Acura lots...

I do wish Acura would release this info...Maybe I will email them again and try once more...

I'm sure the old lady with the KBP six speed TL-S down the street from me has never ever came here and "checked in"

One thing to keep in mind is that the car forum community is usually a very small percentage of the actual owners. This goes for most if not all makes and models of cars

Dear Mr. Jobe,

Thank you again for contacting Acura Client Relations with your request of wanting to know how many Acura TL Type-S’s were produced in 2007 and 2008.

We are able to tell you that in 2007 there were 58,500 TL’s sold, and in 2008 there were 46,700 TL’s sold. We are unable to provide you with further breakdown of trim levels and colors though

Sincerely,

Acura Client Relations

Going by the numbers and what someone said before about 1 in 10 being a TL Type-S I am guessing its safe to assume about 5,850 TL Type-S's were produced in 2007 and 4,670 were produced in 2008 give or take a few on each...

I just went through the Acura website....

www.acura.com

Maybe if we can get enough people together emailing them they will check more...

Include a link to this thread maybe?

The number of TL-S is probably about 6-7K per year with MT being 1000 to 1500. MT owners are way more like to be active forum members. In the same light TL-S owners are far more likely to participate. Still maybe only a percentage of owner participate in the forum. Just to be clear the car is not an investment unless you are parting it out.

Buying a mass produced car for an investment is like peeing in the ocean to make it flood...

a lot of 07-08 TL's in SF Bay Area

I currently work at a DOD contractor in South Bay Area w/ @ 5k employees. Since I bought my 07 NBP TL/S I have counted 35 07-08 TLs, 7 of which are TL/S. That's just one medium sized employer out of hundreds.

Indeed, as I was the same for the longest time, I had no idea this site existed. However, I may be nuts, but when I was out to buy this very vehicle when it first came out; and my focus was primarily the 08 model.

I could not find any dealerships with more than 1-2 brand new, so I dont know what to say, I guess us Los Angeles people are broke. I searched within a 200 mi radius to purchase my car at the best price with over 20 acura dealership's. From the time I started November 07', I did not end up purchasing my car, brand new til July.

So Trust in Whatever you Want hahahah... Guess they must have went trigger happy up north and in other states

Not sure where you would find the exact numbers but I see a 07-08 Type S about once a week in my area. It always catches my attention when I see someone else with the same car.

I've seen quite a few in Philly, especially in the past few years. There are soo many base TLs, they are everywhere and that is a very affordable car here. I know one guy who has a type s but ive seen other ones. Dont know anyone personally who has a 6MT S tho.

I've seen a lot of 04-06 Base TLs around here (Queens/Nassau), however I don't see as many 07-08 Base.

But since we're on the topic of TL-S, I can say I've seen quite a few around Queens and Nassau New York. I always take a second look when it's a TL hah.

Good luck to the seller. His asking price is kind of steep for an 8 year old car with a 150K on the odometer. I guess in the end it's good for me when it come time to sell mine.

If there are math wizards on here just break the math down to get a close estimate.
Acura has provided the total number of TL's sold.

I went to autotrader and just checked how many of each are available nationwide:
04-08 TL - 2220
Type S - 198
TL-S 6 - 21

Someone smarter than me could probably make some sense out of these numbers and calculate how many TL-S and TL-S6 were in that total production number and it'd probably come pretty close. And that's probably the closest we'll ever get.

Could pull samples from cars.com and other large car sites to get a better ratio of TL vs TLS numbers.

Someone got a reply from Acura and apparently this info is a company secret and sadly we'll never know publically:

It's apparently a "proprietary level information"

Dear Mr. Ulett,

Thank you for again for contacting Acura Client Relations in regards to obtaining the production numbers for the 2007 and 2008 Acura TL Type-S.

While we would like to accommodate your request, Acura considers that level of detail as proprietary, and therefore we are unable release that information to you.

Sincerely,

Acura Client Relations

Unless you actually work in the proper dept you may know personally but of course this info is likely part of a NDA and we'll just have to guesstimate.

Does the 2005 TL Sport get added to Type S? Is it rarer with 6MT and Navi?

Mine was originally listed on the showroom floor as a "sport" but it was end of 2003, right before they marketed the HFP/Aspec badges and trim.

I live next to the Research Triangle Park in NC where there are A LOT of regular TL's, probably due to all the 9-5 office folk, as the TL was a decent car back when. I recently got my TL Type-S last May and have been on the lookout since. I think I've only seen 4 other Type-S's. And none like mine with the A-Spec kit. I really wanted a 6MT, but none were for sale within 400 miles. Let's all just agree the 6MT is rare, but like others have said, not a collectable. Enjoy!
