Type B vs regular servicing
So my 08 TL has hit 16000km...completely trouble free.
Anyways, the good ol' maintenance reminder popped up with a
TypeB service required.
So.. being in Canada, here are 2 scenarios I can do..
pay the full $206 + tax for the standard TypeB which includes
all that inspection b.s:
Service B $206.00 + tax.
Replace engine oil and filter
Inspect and top off all fluid levels (windshield washer, battery, brake, transmission, coolant, power steering, and hydraulic clutch).
Set tire pressure to factory specs
Rotate tires
Inspect front brakes, pads, discs and calipers
Inspect brake hoses and lines for cracks or leaks
Inspect adjustment of parking brake
Inspect suspension-mounting bolts
Inspect condition of exhaust pipes and muffler
Inspect power steering system
Inspect steering operation, tie rod and ends, steering rack and boots
Inspect all drive belts
Lube all hinges and latches
Inspect and replace air filter if necessary
Inspect air conditioning system for efficiency
Inspect battery connections
Inspect all hose clamps and coolant system
Inspect all lights and accessories
complimentary wash and vacuam
OR
Oil change + Tire rotation $ 86.99 + tax.
Replace engine oil and filter
Inspect and top off all fluid levels (windshield washer, battery, brake, transmission, coolant, power steering, and hydraulic clutch).
Set tire pressure to factory specs
Rotate tires
complimentary wash and vacuam
I'm gonna go with option 2 to save a bit of coinage!

Well while option 2 is the best money saving idea and you could do all the stuff in service B yourself. I would buy the service manual just to aid you in inspecting all those areas specified in service B. Plus it'll be an invest into learning more about your car and help save you more money in the future.

I wouldn't go to the dealer to get this done. Just do the oil change yourself (many DIY on these forums) and get someone to help you with the tire rotation (rather easy). Best to learn now than later, will save you money and you will always get that gut feeling that you did it yourself. Now if you really don't want to risk it deep inside and have the money to do it, sure go ahead. But make sure this...
DO NOT
Let Acura give you that complimentary wash.

hey TC.. i've always gone to NorthShore Acura for service.. they are very good.. polite and one of the few dealerships where the wall dividing the service bay is all glass so you can see everything that's going on in there.
They quoted me the following:
oil change $59.95
tire rotation $22.95
+ taxes and any applicable levies.
..or just go there and say "I'll take what the 08 WDP is having" lol.

for minor stuff like that, its simpler to diy, plus u start becoming one with ur car and understanding it more, like certain smells, noises etc.
save urself $50 + tax, go to your local store get the stuff and do it urself

just got this done... cost me $99cdn taxes in. this is what they did INSTEAD of the B1 service:
Oil & filter change
check battery
check coolant
check brake and transmission fluid
inspect exhaust system
top of windshield washer fluid
adjust tire pressure and inspect wear
lubricate locks, hinges and door seals
check lights, horn and wipers
rotate tires
complimentary wash and vacuam (skipped the wash cuz i dont trust lot boyz and their wash brushes but vacuam was good!)
good enough in place of the 16000km B1!!! car rides like silk!

Now, would you think the same way if your B1 service was at 90,000kms?? The manual doesnt call for any added inspections or work done, but my mind wonders if the posts above would still apply?
