Transmission fluid and Filter replacement
Hello,
Season greetings to everyone, I performed the last of my 3x3 transmission fluid change today along with the filter. I have a 2006 tl base model i purchased about a month ago, It's a one owner car with 100k that was owned by a older woman who had all the maintenance performed by the Acura dealer. a few days after owning it i picked up some honda dw1 from my local honda dealership and changed the transmission fluid, The fluid was brown in color but no weird burnt smell and the magnetic drain plug didn't look bad. The transmission shifted good when i bought the car and after the 1st fluid change with dw1 there really wasn't a difference in shifting, A week later I ordered some redline d4 and did my 2nd fluid change and noticed a much firmer and solid shift compared to my first drain and fill with dw1. There's a parts store in my area that sells all amsoil products so i purchased some amsoil signature series atf to do my last drain and fill and comparing the three different fluids the amsoil atf have a much firmer and quicker shift than dw1 and redline d4. I also changed the transmission filter by following a diy guide here on acurazine, I don't think the filter has ever been changed and hearing from other people its suppose to be a lifetime filter but having a 100k on the clock its definitely time for a new filter. I took a picture of the old filter just so everyone can see what my transmission filter look's like with 100,000 miles of service. I took the pics in the kitchen on the counter top...lol.
P.s. I ordered the gasket, o-ring and spring online from hondapartsunlimited.com and autozone had the filter for $8.49 part# TF557. I didn't notice anything different as far as shifting goes changing the transmission filter but i have a feeling of relief knowing its been changed, My honda dealer sells dw1 atf for $8.70 a quart and my local auto parts store have amsoil atf for $10.00 bucks a quart. The dw1 is oem fluid for acuras but for a $1.00 and change more in my opinion the amsoil atf is definitely worth the extra price
