Trading in the TL

So,....after owning this car for so long. I hate to part away from it
but with 193k miles and what I feel is a slipping in 4th gear. Its time to just get rid of it. Been the best car I've ever owned. Aside from the automatic transmission, this car is flawless.

Going to pick up a 2015 accord sport 6mt. Dont care for whatever bells and whistles that do not accompany this car. My requirements are simple. Bluetooth and able to stream music.
Civic Si was going to be my choice but now that I have a 3rd kid on the way. I have to get something bigger. although I still have the Pilot as the family car.

In all the years i've owned the TL.
Here's what I've replaced

Both front lower control arms
heater control valve
evap canister
Rebuilt trans 04/2016
upgraded to Aspec MT suspension
FR window regulator

I know if i fix this trans again, under warranty still. I may have to pay parts or labor. Forgot what the warranty covers.
but then the timing belt will have to be done soon and other little things.
Figure its best to cut ties while the car still has some value ( and no CEL )

I really wish Acura / Honda had designed better transmissions because this has been the weakest link in such a reliable engine.

Im pretty sure i'll miss the power vs what the accord sport offers but how fast can I really go down the side streets when I drive 4 miles a day to the park n ride.

The deal is pretty much sealed on the car. Just hard for me to cut ties with the TL and use as a trade in ( I know its stupid of me but the best choice is to trade it in )

If i get home early enough I'll drive to the dealership if not then tomorrow morning.

Damn, that sucks the transmission started slipping again slightly over a year after rebuild. I was shown the OEM clutch packs yesterday by the transmission builder I went by, they are junk. He showed me what he used in the rebuilds he did and they were much higher quality.

Sucks that you have to get rid of the TL, but the Accord Sports are definitely a cool car. Would be fun with a 6 speed, I'm sure.

I wouldn't feel bad getting rid of the TL though, I would be super frustrated if I were you.

We had a 9th gen Accord Sport in the shop yesterday getting a CAI put on, it was even a manual!

He had shopped around dealer to dealer and was having a hard time finding the M/T, everywhere he went tried pushing the automatic on him. He ended up waiting, ordering a 2017, and he couldn't have been happier. He said although it's not the fastest thing he has ever driven it gives a great ride, it has tons of features for the price point, and it looks sharp. All good things to say here!

I wouldn't feel bad giving up the TL (although it is a great car), it's better to get out of things like that before they become overwhelming.

Damn for the money, I'd be looking for an 08 6MT type S, or another fully loaded vehicle that has a few years on it. Nothing worse than paying top dollar for cloth seats. Upgrades costs are ridiculous (unless you like getting ripped off) and depreciation is just as bad.

I'm not defending OP's post but you gota know that everyone's situation is different. As for OP's first post, it really sounds like he needs an new/newer car, being a family man and all. When you have kids, last thing you need are car problems ( I kinda know because I have a 7year old daughter and another on the way). To each there own.
As for the cloth seats, I actually really like them. My bro has a 2015 Accord Sport and they are pretty nice. I actually prefer cloth over leather but that's just me. Depreciation for every car is bad in general, but its a Honda. It won't depreciate too bad compared to other brands.

The Sport in 6Spd trim feels awesome. Now, i must say, my TL felt just about the same. Maybe with the trans messing up I lost some power.

These pics are from the dealership
I'll take some later after I wash it. Since I went up to the mountains camping.

I ordered some wheels locks since I forgot to remove the ones off the TL.
I also want to integrate the DEI shock sensor to my factory alarm. Similiar to this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...-alarm-855658/

I have the module but im stuck trying to figure out which is the hood pin wire. I think its the gray one lol

But what a difference. This car is agile and nimble. Pretty responsive in 6th gear especially if cruising on the highway and want to pass someone. Was pretty surprised with that.

Yes they do offer the Accord in V6 with MT, you just have to take off 2 doors and as far as performace wise they put number down better than TL-S MT.

OP I love the MMC Accord EX-L and Sport rims they looks dope, hell even the Accord looks nice too.

i have friends who have 2016 BMWs with problems. New does not equal less car problems, they actually can be more problematic with the new tech. Who am I to judge? Just throwing my 2 cents. I rather invest my $$$ into real estate vs cars. Car payments make no sense to me. Couple year old top of the line cars are not that expensive compared to new basic base models.

17 Accord Aport owner here. Came from a realllly nice 04 TL (until it was totaled). I too was looking for a pre-owned Accord Sport with the 6mt. Every one I found was priced $18-20k, with under 30k miles. At the suggestion of my mother (of all people!) I called a local dealer to inquire about a 17. I wanted a manual in the blue color... at the time, Honda was offering 0% financing. Unfortunately, there were exactly 0 6mt's anywhere near Philadelphia, and I had to buy a car.... the rental was just killing me (Chrysler 200s). The payment for a used Sport was nearly identical to a brand new 17.

I resigned myself to the CVT as 3 other dealers collectively were unable to locate a new 6mt. However, when I looked at the blue, it just didn't do it for me. The redesigned body lines, lights and chrome just didn't pop on the blue. I went with white.

I have 0 complaints and love driving the car. I just turned 4000 miles this morning (bought in January 2017) and drive my beater truck to/from work.

Good luck with the car... you'll love it!

Yes locks are on. These wheels were getting stolen- just in my area- at a rate of AT LEAST 2 sets per week.

I dont drive it much since I have my beater so it's parked in the driveway.

I always liked the accord as my next option but not right now when the price is so high. V6 + 6MT is a must. Locks are not enough, a 19mm 12 point and ALOT of noise and they're off, but I'm a heavy sleeper. Park that baby inside and get some cameras.

easiest way to spot a sport model is the car has no sunroof, at some point Honda stop produce SE model and use Sport to replace the old SE. Honestly at the moment only car that worthy replace my TL is all out of my price range (I don't like car payment) e.g GS350 F sport, IS350 F sport, RLX Sport Hybrid.

The Sport is one step above the base model. Very surprising, judging by the styling.

Youre almost ar $40k with the Touring trim which provides the 19's, V6, LED headlights, sensing package, leather, sunroof, nice audio.....

However, for $22,1XX I have 0 complaints and still believe it is one of the best looking, affordable cars on the road right now.

I am actually impress with Honda step up their game quickly and this can be seen on your Accord, new Civic and the new Odyssey. Acura division need total make over since most of the Honda has better interior than their more expensive counter part.
