TLS TRUTH or MYTH...286HP or 300HP stock!?

Hey everyone so I was speaking with a friend of mine who used to own a Acura RL 3.5L...we were talking about my recent 08 TLS purchase and he mentioned that when he went into the Acura dealership and was conversing with the tech's they mentioned that on paper they had to reduce the HP number to 286 for the TLS because owners of the RL were complaining that the TLS being a class lower had more HP both being 3.5L engines. So to settle the complaints coming in the changed it....is there any truth to this? If it is true I'm totally happy and ok with it lol...

Yes, 100% truth. Acura re-labeled the HP of their TL engines to appease whiny RL owners.

first let me clear thing up for you a bit.

the RL doesn't come with 300 HP (at the crank) and this because the 2006 SAE new procedure for certifying engine power out put. You can do more research about this matter.

The RL has 290 HP and 256 ft-tq.
TL-S has 286 HP and 254 ft-tq.

I have both car and I can tell you that number mentioned above is true, the TL-S feel more powerful because it has less weight than the RL.

36XX lbs for the TL-S v.s 40XX for the RL.

However the torque curve in the RL is way better than the TL because of weight it lugging. The TL-S feels better on the top end RPM, both engine are identical EXCEPT the cam, TL-S has a hollow cam shaft where RL has a solid cam shaft with slightly different camlobe and this probably that 4 HP and 2 FT-TQ extra come from.

Suspension set up also different as well.

RL suspension setting toward luxury cruise, similar to a Lexus LS460. Even with SH-AWD the RL can't hide it under-steer in some case.

TL-S suspension set up leaning toward sport side where it design to hide it FWD characteristic VERY well UNLESS you push it to the limit, even so the TL set up to be over steer once you let off the throttle. I have to say out of all FWD TL-S is one of the best handling vehicle.

The build quality of the RL is far superior of the TL, I found that between TSX, TL and RL the TL build quality is poorest between the 3 model. Material doesn't held up over time and rattle every where (the most famous spot is the rear deck near right speaker) and the infamous dash crack. Leather seat quality is behind TSX and RL as well.

I don't know why RL owner cry lol, like I said its two car that does 2 different purpose. Sadly the RL is kinda odd place where it stuck between RWD V6 and V8 luxury sedan. I use my RL as daily driving duty and the TL-S just sat in the garage most of the time now.
