TL Type S top speed way down

Car and Driver posted a top speed of 154 mph for an 08 S-type. Had mine out on two different days and it stoped pulling at 136 and stayed there for three miles. Road was flat and air temp was 34. My TL has 60,000 miles, auto trans and is in otherwise perfect condition. I took it to my Acura dealer and they said there is no way for them to test drive at that speed. I called Acura of America and got pretty much the same answer. Any thoughts?

My previous vehicle was an SS Traiblazer (pos) and it had a way to disable all the saftey features. Any magic button on the TL i am missing? I turned off the VSA and it did nothing for the top speed

unfortunately, there is nothing you can do short of buying the J&R ECU.
there are some models of TL's that exceeds the 130mph limit.

for example, my 2006 TL 6MT can exceed 130mph.

okay heres the funny part, the speed limiter is on the transmission, so basically the automatic type s is limited to 132mph(yours might show 136 but maybe thats within the speedometer error). get this, the base tl(04-06) automatic has no limiter, I've seen youtube videos where they do 140+ mph bone stock. Also, 6MT has no speed limiter.....basically out of all the 04-08 TL, the type s automatic has it the worst.

Why are you going those speeds in the first place? Why do people care the top speed it can reach lol. Planning on running from the cops or something??

I seriously hope your not doing this on local roads or highways. Thats just stupid. But if your doing it at a closed off track then its fine.

Exactly right except (I think) for one part.

The '07/'08 Base have the same 132-ish limiter as the AT TL-S. All the '07/'08 AT's (Base and Type-S) have the RL based trans which has the lower limiter.

AFAIK.

I challenge any Type S 5at to a race for pinks, my terms.

I wonder if thats a carry over from the RL because limiting a car based on the trans makes no sense. I know we've had this discussion many times on this subject, I liked the ones of whether or not the other TLs are limited to 155.

Yeah pheeewwwww!!! im sooooooooooo glad my car is 6mt what would I do if I couldnt go 140+ mph?? Plus that will help resale value because most people will only want the cars that can achieve 140+ on public streets

I'm assuming this was done on a track and not on a highway/public road....

But if not...

Grow up. You're 40 years old and walking into an Acura dealership asking why your car can't get past 136 mph. Any thoughts? Yea, how about you start worrying about other things than getting your car up to that speed.

Again, if this was done on a track then disregard above statement.

VSA isn't for your top speed buddy. Its is a vehicle stability assistant; which the computer helps you control your vehicle better on turns, curves, etc.

Drifting is always faster than straight up cornering though .

Drifting is the slowest way around a corner.
