TL to RSX- fair trade?

I LOVE my 2004 TL, but I'm considering listing my TL on Craigslist, offering to trade for an RSX (the Type S, preferably). I'm off to college in September, and I'm already spending a lot on fuel, which is why I (reluctantly) want a four-cylinder. Is the RSX my best option, and a worthy substitute for the TL? Are the parts for an RSX cheaper than the TL? Would an Impreza be the better choice? Should I ask for cash along with a potential trade?

Snarky non-answer noted, but this is purely theoretical.

He isnt being snarky he is just pointing out the obvious lack of information you provided. How many miles does your TL have? Etc. Your post is just like saying "I have the top of line car, should I downgrade to a lower model?" Based purely on that its not really a legitimate question....provide more detail......simple as that.

what are you getting right now for mpg? i can't imagine you will be saving too much mpg switching to rsx. if you really love your TL then try giving it a tuneup and seeing if mpg improves

Is the rsx a worthy substitute for the TL? Well, if you think that less room, two less doors, less power, less cylinders, less creature comforts, isn't important, then yeah, I think it's a worthy substitute.

There's nothing wrong with the rsx. But it's a completely and utterly different car. You're quite literally comparing apples to oranges.

Are the parts cheaper? Likely not. It's still honda/acura.

Is fuel economy.better? Well we have no info on how you drive, but I'm sure you can easily get equal,or very close fuel economy between the two. Do a quick google search to find out their ratings. No one wants to spoon feed you here. Keep in mind the Type S requires premium fuel. You'd be better off finding a car that runs on regular.

Get a Civic. Seriously. It's likely one of the best cars you can get while in college. Don't get an Si though, if you are trying to pinch pennies.

Why do you think an impreza is better? Do you mean a base impreza, or wrx, or sti? You give us zero info and you expect detailed replies. Get your shit together, son. We can only help you if we have details.

How many miles on the 2004? Insurance is prob going to be higher at your age with the RSX vs a TL.

I'll also put it out there to look at the TSX and even just an Accord EX-L which gets about 20-24 city 31-35 highway while still providing decent power and good low-end torque...

But really, we need more information...

Best of luck with your decision though!!!

Yeah have you considered the TSX much better choice
I was on The search of a second car and was looking at the 04 TSX and the RSX as a Daily. I sat down in The RSX and first thing that came to mind is how ugly the entire dash is
and basically no luxury at all in this car. I picked the TSX and it does excellent in the fuel economy department. I got the same MPG on this 2.4lt as my old 1.8 Acura Integra

Downgrade IMO. Only things i find better in the RSX are the weight, the looks, and the aftermarket parts support is better. Honestly I bet you the RSX will actually cost you more in maintenance and the same in gas.

Get an old Miata. Good gas mileage on 87, cheap insurance, dirt cheap parts, easy to work on, corners like few other cars, chicks dig it, and you will never be the designated driver for your drunk ass friends. It's the perfect college car and, since you can find them cheap, you'll have money left over for kegs. I'm honestly kicking myself for not getting one back in high school.

Should be pretty cheap. They're frequently garage queens for retirees, which keeps the rates down. Plus it's an older car. I got mine when I was 22 living in Boston and I was paying around a grand a year iirc.

for a 20-25 year old car, likely not much.

To verify, it's just a quick call to your insurance company to find out.

Not so much the age but moreso the "SPORTS CAR " classification i figured a Miata would be considered in the eyes of the Ins. Co.

yeah, but replacement value is part of the equation also. NA miatas can be had for like 1.5-3k these days. As far as sports car classification... lol. Just because the roof goes down, it's now a sports car? I know insurance companies are crazy with stuff like this, but man, that's a stretch. 125hp is about as sporty as a base model civic from 2002.

They do some crazy voodoo sometimes.. who knows.

I just did a fake quote on Geico and for a 18 year old, it's about 567 dollars for 6months to insure a '94 Miata..
