Really? The car seems to react to hot weather as any other car I owned has. You driving it hard?

yea it has been known that the TL suffers from heat soak. There is some steps u can take to reduce the problem If ur willling to do some things to ur car. the info can be found in "Tl on a diet" thread.

Hmm this is interesting, one hot summer like day a few months back in LA, I tried to cut in front of an old tercel from a red light. I barely made it past, he was trying to block me out, and he almost succeeded. Thought it was just me, but I guess others may be having the same assessment?

humidity is a killer on engine performance--wiki: density altitude
ways to reduce heatsoak:
install P2R or outlaw engineering intake manifold to engine spacer and TB to manifold spacer - those reduce heat transfer between critical parts of differing metals--
the manifold sits on top of the center of a v6 engine--lots of heat rising there~~
reduces internal temp of air in the intake-(there are sensors that adjust other settings based on that temp and air density)
better power,,more like 59f and sealevel~

75f seems low to me for a loss of power- are you on 91 octane gas?
a ck for codes or a run with scanner plugged in may reveal a bad sensor

My car feels the same whether its in the summer or winter. And none of you can say that its hotter where you live unless you live in Hawaii or below Texas. 110 degrees + 100% humidity = really 130 degrees.
I don't know why, but when I clean my car it drives smoother, I think I'm smoking something.

Three years in Orlando with weather in the 90's and high humidity and mine still seems to run fine. Have you considered a ten degree cooler thermostat? I had a 1996 Taurus that performed poorly in greater than 92 degree weather. I changed the thermostat and the car seemed to work far better.

I've never had an issue in either hot weather (low 100s F) or very cold weather (-8F with the windchill closer to -25F). I did buy a house with a garage specifically for the purpose of parking the car in there, and of course it's notably cooler in the garage than it is outside in the sun, so who knows whether that makes any difference in terms of the car being cooler when I start off to go somewhere. I've been driving the RX-7 more this week because it's been great top-down weather; it seems to run better in the hotter weather than it does in the cold (maybe because the car is 22 years old?).
I also tend to buy 91 octane gas at Sunoco because they carry both 91 and 93 and the 91 is 2¢ a gallon cheaper. I sometimes buy 92 octane at the Wawa in Woodbridge if I'm down that way. I've noticed no difference in the car's performance on any of these three grades at any time of year (or on 94 octane, which I bought twice at Petro-Canada stations), so I don't see any reason not to go with the 91. Sunoco in the DC area used to carry 87-89-93-94, but they phased out the 94 due to MTBE regulations in a number of states and now they carry 87-89-91-93. The only car in which I've ever REALLY noticed the difference is in my brother's 1974 Beetle, which for some reason thrived on the 94 octane.

Bert you jackass.. you're going to be boosted soon and you're complaining about being in sloth mode.
Keep us updated on your progress. You're like the chimp we shot into space. Except the chimp is your 5AT. Will it survive?? to our fallen chimp comrades.

Some TLs have serious issues in the heat. Mine is one of them. It's done it since it was brand new.
Every car gets slower as temps rise. My TL gets abnormally slow. It surges, it requires half throttle just to keep up with traffic from a redlight. Gas mileage goes down to about 12mpg around town.
I know what it is, I just don't know how to permanently fix it. The car has a detonation problem. The computer retards the timing and there goes power and gas mileage. I've monitored it on the scanner to verify. Running 100 unleaded cures it of this problem and it feels like any other car in the 105 degree summers. Unfortunately I don't have the money to run $6 gallon fuel.
I've monitiored AF ratios. I've verified the EGR works. I've changed the plugs to a colder range. I've verified every sensor is good. I've verified coolant temperature is correct (more on this later). I've done a water decarbonization even though it did this since it was new. I've relocated the air intake sensor to a cooler and then to a hotter place than the actual inake air to trick it and see if I could get any improvements. Nothing works. The only thing I haven't done is a compression check to see if something is mechanically wrong.
Those of you saying there is no problem are lucky but rest assured some TLs have a very real problem once it hits 80 degrees and above.
I do have one idea though. My TL runs at 198 degrees whether it's the middle of winter or summer. This is what many cars run at and many GM cars run at 210-220 degrees so I thought nothing of it. However, I recently discovered the TL comes with a 170 degree thermostat. I have to wonder if some of us got the wrong or a defective thermostat from the factory. That, coupled with the hotter intake air in the summer months may be the cause of the detonation. I have a thermostat on order so we'll see what happens.

IHC-Where did you find out that our t-stat should be 170 degrees? I'm looking forward to more info about this.
I've been running my A/C lately and I am nothing but pissed at the slowness of my car. I also have a 6mt and you even have to change the way you shift with the A/C because of the extra strain. You have to give more throttle just to get going. I'd like to dyno the car with the A/C on to see how much hp I'm losing. I bet its around 20-25hp.

Anyone else feel like they lost power after putting in the CAI? I put mine in last week, and I'm not sure if it's me or what, but I don't think I feel the VTEC kicking in like I used to on stock intake. I love the way it sounds when I'm WOT from inside the car though !!!!

mdx spacer + hood spacers. it really doesn't look at as bad as everyone makes it out to seem. and it works. it WORKS.
