Tips For Better Gas Mileage?
Has anyone done anything specific to their TL to improve gas mileage? I've had my 3G since 3/25/11 & I've filled up 5 or 6 times ... watching the gas mileage meticulously. I always seem to end up getting 16 mpg. Is that normal? My last car was an '06 Impala LT. I seemed to have gotten better mileage out of that hunk of metal. Any suggestions? P.S. I changed my air filter 4/2/11 & checked my tire tread & pressure (both good) and I fill up on first warning from light. I get about 14 or so gallons back in the tank.

t/belt been done at 105k?
plugs?
how clean is the engine internally? is it all sludged up?
i was surfing the net earlier today, and came across this, hopefully it is nowhere close to it (iirc only like 150k on it or so):
or hopefully like this (this particular one the poster says 130k on it, which with correct maintence is very possible)

i felt the same way when i 1st got my 06 TL AT in 08/2010. I live right off the I495 E bound and I use to take my "new" ride to work in the city a 30 minute drive. On the highway I would drive aggressively and started seeing a big diff in gas mileage. MY MID would say 19/24mpg. this was at 39K. I recently had a completely dead battery (f'ing dome light) and all my data was lost. So i'm about 40,100m now and since it got reset my MID saids 16/15mpg. So it will say 16 if your battery was replacing meaning its building new data off your driving habits. I believe it will stay like this since your car is already broken in. [sorry if I sound like i'm rambling]

In these days of UNCONTROLLED and UNNECESSARY gas price hikes thanks to those wonderful futures traders on Wall St. getting richer at OUR EXPENSE, there are some things you can do.
The LESS slowing down and speeding up you do, the LESS gas you'll use. I try to choose routes with the fewest traffic lights.
When I see a red light up ahead, I take my foot off the gas and coast. An because I have a manual transmission, I also go into neutral at the same time so the engine speed drops down to that of the car being stopped. It's amazing how many people are in a hurry to get to a red light, get pissed off, and feel they have to pass and/or honk me. Fuck 'em!
Gone are the days of jackrabbit starts and having a lead foot. I accelerate gradually going up through the gears as quickly as possible to minimize RPM's while keeping them within realistic range for whatever speed I'm going.
Make sure your tire pressures are correct and change your air filter if needed. Adding a can (or bottle) of fuel system cleaner to the gas tank a tankful or two before oil changes won't hurt either.
Get the junk out of the trunk! The more weight you're carrying, the more gas you use.
All these tips can add up to more gas savings than you might have thought possible.
Unfortunately, Acura didn't have the foresight to give us an instantaneous MPG gauge along with average for the tank.... DUH!!

I would keep it in the highest gear. Even though the engine speed is higher it will be burning NO fuel as opposed to putting it in neutral where it will be idling burning fuel. The engine drag is minimal when you're in the highest gear so you won't slow down that much faster.

Op also check your plugs. that helped mt mpg quite a bit when I first got my 3g at 107k. Your service may not be due yet but for the people that live in cities and sit in traffic you get very high engine idle time and would be equivalent to putting miles on your engine but since your not actually rolling your not putting miles on the odo. That make sense at all? Lol

Good Vibes
Tire pressure should be kept up for minimum roll resistance (crucial), wheel/rim weight can be a big factor. Owning a hybrid taught me a few things. Like not treating every stop light like a drag race, go easy on the pedal and relax. I mean, where's the fire? Keep your car breathing freely, maintain air filters. Keep the junk out of the trunk, extra weight in your car burns more fuel.

06 Anthracite TL
Mixed mpg is ~ 26 (maybe 2 mpg lower in the winter with snow tires on)
A long highway cruise = 33 mpg
I drive like an old lady (no WOT takeoff, just smooth and easy), use the cruise control when on the highway, and do proper maintenance.
Selling this car for a Civic or the like makes no sense. You can get decent mpg with little trying.

Shell v-power
Fill Your Car with Shell V-Power fuel. Trust me I have a bias because i own a shell station and body shop but ive tried to follow the difference in MPG from regular to v power. Ive told some people who fill at my place to make the switch and that its worth the 20 cent difference. They came back weeks later and told me how they noticed an improvement in gas miles....for those who dont already put v power or premium fuel that is..

The topic has been beat to death but putting premium fuel in an engine that does not need premium fuel will not help gas mileage at all.

Wow something must be wrong with my car, i have a 06 with 40k on it and im barelly get 20mpg driving like an old man. If someone can do a test for me that would be awesome. Fill up your tank and reset the trip odemeter and tell me how many miles you get to the tank full. It would be much appreciated. Thanks
