I am thinking of trading my 2008 Acura TL-S, which I purchased new for a new 2016 Lexus RCF. The Lexus dealership is offering $11k for my TL-S (black/black) with 98k miles and in excellent condition. They are offering 26% off MSRP for the RCF.

I've owned 6 Honda/Acura's and have owned a 2000TL, 2002 TL-S and a 2008 TL-S. Other than the NSX, Acura currently doesn't offer anything which interests me. Would prefer to stay with either Toyota or Honda for reliability purposes. So if you have any experience with the Lexus RCF would like to hear them. I know the Lexus grill is either a love or hate thing but it doesn't bother me as much as the Acura grills.

I would private sell the TL, you will get another few grand out of it.

Trading in a $11K car will net close to $12K due to the tax benefit. Not worth private selling if its only going to get you another $1-2K on top. Its a hassle. You'll need to invite the common public all up in your private beach front.

OP...I doubt anyone on a forum full of 10-13 year old Acuras has much RC-F experience. Have you test driven it?

There's only a relative few RC-F's out there period. I'm sure its solid. Its a Toyota with an existing Toyota V8. It also has a warranty. If you like the way it drives...its a safe bet.

They're taking 26% off? That's like $15-20K off. :\

just going by stats, ie; I'm paper racing...
the RC-F is heavy and engine output is low.
a '15 5.0 Mustang is faster.

there are mighty discounts on the GS-F, as well.

it's not always about being the fastest... the RC-F is a beautiful car and the interior puts the mustang to shame ten times over. I could see a 5AT TL-S owner being happy with an RC-F. Huge power upgrade, even if a mustang is faster still. By and large, that mustang is far from refined in comparison to the lexus.

plus, there are 8 mustangs on every corner... RC-Fs are much more rare to spot. Personally, that's something that would appeal to me.

^right, which I stated....The RC-F is beautiful to look at! there was one in my work parking garage. Beautiful car.

and a TL-S owner would be happy in a '15 Mustang GT, toO!!! it's not far off from the TL's interior.

except for the hard plastic everywhere... don't get me wrong- I have a soft spot for the Mustang. But comparing the two, one is more luxury focused while the other is more sport focused. OP sounds like he wants luxury.

but to carry on our mustang vs tl interior convo, it's really not that bad. it's not like the driver touches the passenger side dash on a daily basis. Even sitting as a passenger in the mustang, i'm touching soft things.

True. Like I said, I love me some Mustang. OP could also look at infiniti- aren't they fairly reliable these days? OP could look at the Q50 if he wants another sedan, or a Q60 if he wants the coupe... either with the 400hp option, of course

the infiniti coupe, Q60, is also sexy! i love the shape of it. the sedan,q50, doesn't really wow me like the coupe...I guess cuz you see the sedan more often than not. and a coupe is a rare sighting!

Easy 2 grand for me, i can think of lots to do with 2 grand. I can sell a car in a matter of days. And I drive down to a local area to meet the potential buyer.

Thanks for all the replies.. I looked at the GSF, it has the same V8 engine and interior as the RCF with 2 more doors and $15k more. I really don't have the need for a 4 door sedan, probably had rear passengers in my 10 year TL-S less than a dozen times and have the wife's MDX for trips. Plus the GSF looks basically the same as the GS 350.

As for Mustangs and Camaros you see them all the time and I want something a little different than the rest of the crowd. I do like the look of the Mustang GT350. I still love my TL-S so it's hard to justify getting a new ride. My internal debate is keep an older vehicle and deal with upcoming maintenance or use that money to get something newer with more power. I usually buy new and hold for 10+ years.

I've limited my search to Honda/Toyota for reliability purposes. I was a Toyota person before Honda, had a '79 and '85 Supra (yes I'm getting to be an old fart now).

I drove couple RCF and GSF they both slow and heavy when compare to other car within category, the only thing it really appealing is the V8 exhaust note. RCF got a huge discount because everyone like the 4 door GSF also if I am not mistaken the weight between the two isn't much difference even you compare a coupe and a sedan however the interior material on the GSF is better.

I do agree with BROlando that at this point its the trade in is the best option for OP its take away waiting time since Lexus having great discounts on RC and GS model. Also note in some state if you buy a car with price tag $50k or more you will get hit with a higher tax bracket and I am pretty sure the RCF gonna cost more than $50k. RCF and GSF actually is a great GT car.

My opinion on car buying is a bit different than most peoples'.

If I was spending $50k on a car...it would have to be a very special car that I had been lusting after.

Or it would need to be a purchase of necessity for which $50K+ was the cost of a good quality car in that usage category. Like..."I need a truck for that will work for the next 10 years. My current one is 15 years old and on fire as we speak"

In either case, if I wasn't 300% sure about wanting/needing it....and the purchase needed discussion with strangers (like what we're doing now)....I would take it as a sign that its a pointless purchase and I wouldn't do it.

I'm like...basically a fu#&ing robot.

before giving any thoughts, factor in potential savings from tax deduction yielded from trade in.. although I wouldn't think tax savings wont be greater than 2g which you could probably milk from private selling
RCF is beautiful but id consider q60 red sport.. good luck

With 26% off a new 2016 RCF's MSRP, I'm assuming that the vehicle is currently resting around the $55,000 mark. Judging from what they value on your trade in, the dealer would be paying you pretty close to top dollar for your TL, thus leaving out the stress of selling it yourself. At the end of the day, a new RCF for roughly $46,000 (with fees already included) is a pretty good deal. You could drive it religiously for a year and make most of your money back if you later decide to sell it.

Without regards to price, it'll last for over a decade without any major headaches and you will be resting in some of the finest materials while doing so. Sure it may not be faster than a Q60S or a S550 GT, but why would you want to be faster than those guys if it will already be better-performing than your TL? If you don't need the space of the GSF, then I say go for the RCF. You will surely snap some necks when driving that car due to its aggressive styling cues and wonderful NA V8 rumble.

Been working on the new 2016 RCF deal. Now they are at 28% off MSRP and 11k for the TL-S. As much as I love the TL-S, this deal is just too hard to pass up. The RCF is black/red with 130 miles on the odometer.
Will post some pictures once it's delivered.

As a detailer, you'll hate how your paint looks in a year if you got their jet (non-metallic) black paint. I have yet to detail a solid black new Lexus that doesn't already have trashed paint from dealer prep. And once corrected, its really hard to keep it that way unless you only properly hand wash it. The metallic black is much less picky to live with.

as a hobby detailer, I just like what metallic flakes look like after a detail.
non-metallic flake paints are so dull!!!! i'm like...SHeesh, i spent 8 hours for it not to sparkle! lol

Put Opti-Coat on a new metallic black RX350 a couple weeks ago, looks incredible in the sun. Other than minor marring here and there, no swirls. But every single solid black one has been pretty bad. And for some reason, blue Tesla's look like they were washed with a burlap sack filled with rocks. No issues with any of their other colors. Go figure.
