Tail Light Design? (pics)

So I tinted my tail lights a couple months ago and love the look on my NBP tl. Then the other day, i got a crazy idea to cut a design onto the tints. I got bored and drew some different designs and hated them all except for one. now i dont know if this has been done before or if it is considered a taboo or if its going to be butt ugly, but i just wanted to get some feedback on what people think before i go cutting up my tints. thanks in advance

Here is my car

Here is the design. Note, the cut-out part of the tint goes over the LEDs in the brake lights cause i thought it would look better and the lights would shine brighter.

i got it.....

DECEPTICON EMBLEM!!!!!! LIKE THE DODGE RAM TAILS

if you are down with this idea i think it would look tight if you did like the 08 TL tails leave the white area showing and cover all the red

anyways, i tried this on my headlights, realize that cutting your tint against the contour of the lighting will create different sh ades in your tail lights, which gets annoying,

haha you know, i actually considered that for a good 2 minutes. just temporarily, but how awesome would it be to have a decepticon car
i probably would if it wasnt for the different shades of light. The design i have above is cut out so the leds arent behind any tint though. wouldnt that make it all one shade over the red parts and one shade over the tinted areas?

Interesting idea, but I'm unsure of the design. It appears to be cutting the turn signal in two, which may not look right.
On another note---OP, I work for Hopkins, too. I'm at Mt Washington, but find myself occasionally at Homewood or East Baltimore. I will have to keep my eyes open for your ride!

It doesn't look terrible... Do it and see what it looks like. you can always rip them off if they don't look good.

nicceee

wow i really like that design. i dont like completely smoked out, i feel like there needs to be some contrast. i was considering just cutting mine out to look like yours because it looks so good. then i went and opened my photo editing program and had a little fun and i think im gonna go ahead and try out my original design. this design really grew on me, but opinions are welcome

as a token of my appreciation blkaspec, I did it on your car too if you wanna know what it would look like lol. I like it with the lip spoiler because it looks classy, almost in a weird way like the newer bmws. I like it with a regular spoiler too because the curves of the design match the curves of the spoiler.

yea i know, it doesnt look like a TL so much with that design. but i figure it looks different and i can just make it a temporary thing if i dont like it. 10 bucks for tail light tint isnt so bad

i saw a cutout once, it was a simple 1-2 inch bar through the middle of the upper portion, sorta like this all the way across:

-------
////////
-------

-------
////////
////////
////////
-------

Didnt look that bad actually. If I had tinted tails, I might have tried something like that

Looks kinda Dodgeish to me but that is just my opinion. Just buy a cheap $15 set on ebay and experiment.

If you have an idea on your head it will always play with your head. You never know till you try. Sometimes someone has your same idea but actually does it before you do in real life and you wonder why you didn't act on your idea first. Some mods look better in your head and when you try it you realize it doesn't look right. They are SO many mods I experimented with and never saw it installed in my car because I deemed them to be whack. (Good example is my anthracite headlight rings or my carbon fibered rear A-spec mod) Other times you might think it may not come out right and it come out better than you expected (example would be my carbon fiber roof spoiler, in-dash DVD mod etc etc.)

The idea has to materialize into reality. If you don't like em, chuck em. But you don't know till you try. That's how all the great AZine mods were born.

I really appreciate this bit of enlightenment. i was actually dismayed wheni found that its EXTREMELY hard to cut tint thats already on the lights
surrounded by the negativity of most of the responses, i didnt really feel like it was worth it anymore. but you just motivated me. im gonna order another set of tints and cut it before i apply the tint and see how it goes. thanks for the push

man guess am thinking out loud....

i got the darkest road blocker tints from BM and cut out the brake light portion (was crazy tough) and put em on.....liked em for 3 months and then took it off....just today i saw blue bat mobile or some like that is selling it LOL !!!!

KUDOS to the new design but am not feeling it way too much....i liked the design, not the result....

in your final pictures i think u just cut the edges very bulky...i think some like this would have been better

current:

you can make it skinnier without bulging it

or straighten the bottom out !!!
