Stupid transmission question

Just recently had my trans. Rebuilt at 150,000 in an 06 TL, I don't think they put dw-1 back in it as its more of a grey tint than red. Anyway have been waiting on the 10,000 Mark so I can do a 3 quart swap and every 10,000 after till I know what's in it. But, question is, why does it matter or does it if the trans. Was rebuilt with an after market kit? I'm sure it's not Honda parts, it wasn't a crate trans. From Honda so does it really matter what's in it being not o.e.m. anymore?

No problems with aftermarket trans parts. If assembled correctly, it will last for years.

Just doing some critical thinking, from an engineer's perspective...

Although parts in this rebuild may be aftermarket, the critical load bearing components would most likely be identical in material and dimensions to the Honda/OEM equivalent (or so we hope ). That being said, the recommended OEM transmission fluid should still be best suited for the job. The biggest influence on lubricating oil for tranny should be material, material interface/tolerance, and temperature. Since DW-1 has superseded Z-1 in Honda auto's, I would suggest that DW-1 is going to suit your rebuild very well.

PS. I am by no means an expert on aftermarket/rebuilt tranny's. Just giving you what my thought process would be, were I in your shoes.

you should go back to the shop that did the repair as the fluid should be pink, not gray. Gray is a sign of moisture or failing components in the trans leaving debris in the fluid.
