steering wheel volume "lights" not covered under CPO bumper to bumper warranty?

what up guys...

the volume up/down and the up/down button that changes the CD track/station do not light up when the lights are on....my CPO bumper to bumper warranty ends on Friday...i took it to the dealership this morning to change out these bulbs...they said that the lights are not covered under this warranty! is this true?

also i am trying to get them to change out the side mirrors as they do not go down in reverse about 50% of the time...that make noises and try, but fail. hopefully they will help me out on this as well, but i am willing to bet that if they do not see the problem (like i said it only happens 50% of the time) they will not help me and i will be sh*t out of luck

BTW, they gave me an 2011 TSX v6 Tech package for a loaner....sweeeeeet

any help/suggestions would be great so i can know when i go back to pick my car up

I had it done under regular warranty. It is a more than a simple job because of the air bag needs to be disabled.

I purchased my TL from a private party who had the 100k AcuraCare extended warranty and I paid the $50 to transfer it. They also would not replace the steering wheel bulbs under that warranty.

They did however, replace my HFL microphone which had started crackling. That is actually the only item I ever used my warranty for.

Bulbs and lights are considered "wear items" and are normally not covered under warranty.

Those bulbs are a 25 minute job, tops, 15 of which are waiting around for the power to discharge.

2 x T20 Torx bolts in the SW, remove airbag, disconnect horn
3 x Phillips for control module

Replace bulb, reinstall, done.

...or you could pay someone in NJ to mod all of the SW light to be blue/white

i have the same issue and i was told the same at the stealership. first my the cruise button went dead, then the cruise up and down button and cancel button on the SW, then the one for the moonroof. and then the reset button for the MID and one of the navigation buttons failed once, but i literally hit those two buttons and they turned back on and havent died ever since. but the whole cruise control buttons on the SW are dead, they function properly but dont light up at night.

Thanks guys. The buttons still function so that's what matters. The stealership is replacing the motors inside the side mirrors so that's at least positive.

There's not many Acura dealers in Northern NJ. Most of the members who live in Northern Jersey and some parts of NYC come to my job for service. I notice the Azine stickers or custom work, even to the most basic mods just as the Op has.

I just think it's awesome that you've worked on other members' cars (as an Acura tech). I always wonder if the Acura techs at my dealer notice my mods and or appreciate them. Not many modded TLs around Indy to begin with.

Yup that was me. How did my TL look mechanically and cosmetically compared to others that come in? BTW the side mirrors still are network g properly.

Why do you have to take out the airbag to change light bulbs?

I changed my bulbs out on both sides by just removing the screws in the back side of the steering wheel that hold the control modules in.

The fact that one errant move could result in a several thousand pound burst throwing my torso throughout my interior come to mind.

I see, for safety reasons. I thought maybe there was a physical/technical reason that wouldn't allow you to change the bulbs with it in.

Clean TL, there are a few just like yours that come in once in a while. Ive seen the good and bad in all vehicles. Leased vehicles are treated worse than those that are actually bought in full. Glad to hear your mirror actuators are working as new.

Exactly correct. Among other reasons, it's impossible to predict with any level of certainty how long bulbs will last. Some people drive with their headlights on all the time and so see faster bulb wear. Some people never turn their headlights on (here in the DC area, I see an increasing number of foreigners driving at night with no lights on) and obviously those people's bulbs will last longer (hopefully they get thrown in jail and the bulbs last forever). Then you have situations such as bad-weather days where you need your lights, or days where you drive on a two-lane road where you pass over the dotted yellow line and so need your lights, etc.....bottom line, there are way too many variables that go into the lifespan of bulbs for it to be feasible to cover them under most warranties.

I didn't catch that thank you. I'm sure when he comes back he can discribe whats going on. His orignal complaint was "Mirrors make clicking noise when moving" Very common issuse and is resolved by replacing the mirror actuators. He also has powertrain warranty from Acura care. Acura care said those bulbs are not covered for the warranty repair. The standard warranty you get when purchasing a new vehicle will cover the repair to replace those bulbs (At least the dealer I work in does). Happy holidays everyone.

both the mirrows and lights on the steering wheel seem to have a mind of its own. mirrors seem to work about 70% of the time (go down when i go into reverse) and now the lights on the steering wheel decided to come on last night (but they werent on this morning??)

oh well....the mirrors are a bigger issue for me...i will bring it back into the dealership if they keep acting up..

thanks for your help! happy holidays everyone!

What's your thoughts on the 6MT 3rd gear synchro grind? My '06 is doing it but I'm a little scared to have a dealer drop the trans to replace the synchro.

i noticed those lights were out so when it was time for my regular oil change and what not told them i that i have so and so lights out.
they said dont worry they will take care of it.
wify goes and gets the oil change and this is what they did. they will order the bulbs and have to come back to replace the bulbs on another day.
i was like didnt i tell you that the bulbs were out? infact i went thru a long conversation with the person on the phone as to which bulbs were out.
i thought he was in the process of ordering them. my dumb ass.
so they ordered it and then they wanted to reschedule my trip back to replace the bulbs.
i dont know about you but its not so much fun to take a hour out of my life wandering the sales floor for no good reason. so i kinda forgotten about the whole bulb since i dont much care either way about the lights on the steering wheel.
anyway by the time i went back to have the damn bulbs replaced..well they sent the bulbs back they said..and get this kicker. this is when i found out that my warranty my extended warranty does not cover bulbs on the steering wheel.
i could clearly remember the sales guy the guy who i talked about the whole extended warranty covers everything i mean everything the regular warranty covers.
i turned couple of colors, took a deep breath and said whatever and walked out....
they called back a day or two later with the bulbs in hand and said please come in for the bulb replacement.
wify went in and got everything done and left. they said it was covered.
so i have no idea.

Have no choice but to bump the tread....
I have a 2006 TL and I need to replace the bulbs for the volume and channel selection on the steering wheel. Also the hands free link. I've searched and found several threads on the topic, but not once has the bulb # been mentioned.
Is the bulb #74 as mentioned here?

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-acura-tl-bulb-sizes-list-3g-garage-g-077-a-691135/

My glove box light is out and the part # is #74. I will be ordering that from RockAuto, but since I'm ordering that I might as well order the bulbs for the controls on the steering wheel.

Thanks.
