A-Spec Brake Pads not available?

So its about time I replace my front pads on my 06 automatic TL, and when researching which pads to get, some people swapped it with A-Spec pads, part # 08P89-SEP-200. I tried ordering the pads through two dealers and they said that the part has been discontinued. Is there some place else where I can order this?

If Acura discontinued this pad, did they make a replacement or am I stuck with OEM base model pads?

I did my A-Spec pads 1yr ago. I was actually surprised they were readily available everywhere at the time. Something told me I should have bought 2 sets.

If they're not available, not to worry OEMs will work just fine.

There are many, many choices in brake pads for the 5at besides stock and aspec. Anything from your typical local autoparts brands to the high performance pads sold by the vendors on this site.

What is it you're looking for that the stock pads aren't giving you?

Stock pads worked great and they lasted to 76k miles. But of course I wouldn't mind having a bit of extra performance with the peace of mind knowing that I am using Honda OEM parts. I ended up purchasing the base automatic Honda OEM pads from a dealer for $45, normally listed at $60 something.

So it was my first time doing a brake job of any kind and when cleaning up the next day i realized I forgot to put in a black plastic cover (shim?) on one of the brakes. Will that matter much? Thanks for your help.

thats not called a shim, I think what you are talking about is the backing plate on the back of the brake pad. its there to help with squeaks but the brakes will work fine without them

Akibono makes Hondas OEM pads and you can get them from several places. Pads are a compromise and the OEM 5at pads are a great compromise between longevity, low noise, wear, and ok performance. Quality is nothing special and there are aftermarkets that are just as high in quality. If you want performance you have to give up something, usually longevity.

You can use pads with more bite and/or a higher operating temp for extended spirited driving but remember that brake pads don't determine how quick the car will stop, only the tires will reduce stopping distance.

That is a backing pad...helps with squeal...you might be ok, did you put brake pad grease on the back of the pads?

Noted for future reference. Is there a brand that has a better pedal feel than the OEM? The initial bite I have noticed is good, but when depressing the brake pedal i notice that its not an very even travel. Don't know if that matters, but I have Hankook Ventus V12s.

Yup, put grease on the back of the pads on all the places except where it touches the rotor.

hehe you guys miss me? lol. Ya my posts are pretty random nowadays, I know.

I was an AZine addict back in the days and really was on here TOO much. I had 100% attendance at all the meets. In 2010 my car was pretty much modded to the max and ever since only did a few small things. Only came back when I needed to search something. hehe.

Many of the OG Aziners have moved on but it's good to see that there are still some die-hard 3Gers like me that are still holding on to the TL.

Back to the A-Spec brakes

And I'm STILL rockin em! Just don't get sick of them, literally every day I look at them and know I was lucky and it was money well spent.

But Blue I was pretty certain you bought some Works too right? Varianzas not Schwerts?
