I hate cars

The worst thing that's ever happened to me was getting talked into taking the GN downtown to the bar area. I came out and saw glass under the car as I was walking up to it. I already knew it had to be from my car. I had $300 in cash in the center console and it was not touched. There was a glass from a bar in the passenger seat, someone obviously vandalized the car with no intention of stealing anything. I had a somewhat antagonizing license plate frame on it at the time. That was the last time I took it anywhere where I had to park it without being able to see it the whole time.

If it were my TL, I would be more worried that they didn't take anything. If stuff was missing it would likely be a simple case of theft. I have a feeling it's a setup for something down the road. My friend found a GPS tracking device in the trunk of his CL65 Mercedes behind some trunk carpeting. We hooked it to a small 12v battery as we removed it so it never lost power and still have not figured out who installed it and why but if they're tracking it, they're not getting a whole lot of info. I would triple check the car for a tracking device.

Is it possible they might have been trying to steal gas? How far was your car from you? I've literally thought I saw someone getting into my TL and I was jogging toward them until I got close enough to realize it was the car next to me. This is especially easy to do at night.

Go over you're car with a fine tooth comb to look for a tracker. Think like a thief. I'd check the interior the most if you saw them inside.

Especially in his apartment complex parking lot. Take off your bumpers, fenders, fender liner, wheels and look everywhere. Take out your back seats and even your front seats. Look in every nook and cranny, you've got a great car and I'd hate to hear something happened to the storm trooper.

Shits crazy. I woulda called the cops and got the people to tell the cops that those two kids matched the description so they could question them. I'd knock them out TBH. No one touches my baby. I'd already fought someone who got out of his truck and threw his door out quick and dented my door. I was near my car but he didn't know it was mine so I fronted him and he tried to hit me in the face (dumb and young college students) but I knocked him on the floor and got his insurance to pay once the cop came.

Also I have a iPhone 4 as my iPod for my car and I have the tracking just incase my car is stolen. Hidden under the cup holders near the positive cable of the cig lighter. Made a hole for the iPod cable in the center console.

Not to be nosy here, but is your car financed or paid off? I know my husband's is financed and his finance company actually has a GPS hidden in the car with a kill switch. Its supposed to be so his ass isn't late with the payments but could work in someone's favor if its stolen.

That's a great suggestion and pretty common.

FWIW, the one found in my friend's Mercedes looked like it was installed in a hurry. Power was tapped with a couple spikes and a clamp into the battery cables in the trunk, if I were guessing it would take just a few seconds to install once the trunk was opened.

When i lived in NY i always carried mine in the trunk with a mitt right next to it... believe it or not that came in handy when a cop searched my trunk n saw a crap load of bats & tried to accuse me of possession of weapons smfh.

Now that I live in the good ol pro NRA state of NC, the few semiautomatics I own will do just fine LOL

Me and 3 other people spent over an hour looking over my car, inside and out. I'll probably go back out there today and look through it again.

My car is not paid off, but it will be by the end of the year. The police officer I spoke to said that he's been working in the area for 20+ years and has never come across an auto theft case where a tracking device was used. It's pretty rural out here and the guys around here just look for an easy target to make quick cash; they usually don't like to spend money to make money.

I've been looking into aftermarket car alarms but I'm still trying to figure out how the hell they got in the car. I honestly can't figure it out.

It's supposed to be one of the top US cities that have the least amount of crime so it sucks that out of the few times it happens it happens to u. I loved it over there, totally regret moving. If I could move back tomorrow I so would, but it's such a PITA putting my current house up for sale & then my husband has to wait for a spot to open for a transfer with his company

Get a viper remote start + keyless entry + alarm and call it a day.

A dump truck passed close to my car yesterday and the alarm went off; that's how sensitive it is.

Well worth the price. I paid 235$ for the system on eBay (model 5704 IIRC) and paid to have it installed.

Honesty if thieves are professional enough they can get around it. But it's definitely a deterrent; from what you've said above most of the assholes in your area would see that it has an alarm and pick on the next poor guy's car

Well I'm at school, not living with my parents. They are about 45 minutes north of school and the track is 20 minutes east.

SO if they go by the personal information given on my registration and such, the car won't be there, but I'm sure they could figure out where I am pretty easily.

I haven't driven the car from Thursday and I probably won't drive until Tuesday. The car is still in one piece and it's still outside. I'm sketched out but don't plan on going to the track ever again, at least not in my car.

Just ran across this thread; very sorry about the break-in on your car, Tyler.

About 9 years ago, my Accord was broken into while the car was parked at church on a Sunday. The thieves took the garage door opener and the registration out of the car, but left the car sitting in the parking lot with a broken window. They then went to my house (since they had the address and a way in with the garage door opener). From my house, they took $12,000 worth of contents and drove away with my wife's car. Ultimately, we got her car back (totaled), but never did recover anything from the house. It was a bad day...I can sympathize with how violated you feel.

In our case, the perpetrators were meth heads who traded our stuff for drugs (I have contacts at Phx PD which allowed me to get some info years later).

Well, anyway, all I was really trying to say is that I totally get how you feel. There's not much worse than discovering that some things you've worked very hard for have been deliberately damaged or stolen. Some will say - "It's just stuff" - and in the grand scheme of things, they're right. But, that doesn't lessen the psychological impact in the short-term when you're still shocked at having been targeted like this.

I dont know about you but id rather have peace of mind and know that my car was secure.
The cost of the alarm is prob a fraction of the amount you would have spent on mods.

Its a simple and easy solution to your situation.

TMax I agree 100% but in my case, not currently having an income doesn't help my push towards getting an alarm. Between tuition, living costs, and gas I'm pretty strapped. I've been looking into the Viper alarms since you an others mentioned it and I like the remote start feature and of course the added security. Maybe I can convince my parents to chip in towards the unit.

I'm not electronically savvy so I would need the alarm to be installed elsewhere. How much does that usually run?

I was just speaking with a shop owner near me about this, Vipers in particular. He said depending on what they're installing and how elaborate (just alarm or alarm and remote start and windows and locks, etc etc) you'd be talking upwards of 2-3 hours. He said they can get the most elaborate setup, also working for my Manual vehicle, for around $125. It's then whatever labor costs you.

Note: This is basically for their best unit, but not the 2-way communication system. He said unless you absolutely need, stay away as those have some issues batteries constantly dying, etc.

Also as he kept bringing it up, Viper, Python, Clifford, etc are all the same product from the same parent company. Just depending on where and how they're marketing the product is why some people buy one vs. another. So if the features are the same between two and one costs less, get that.

I have the 5901 on my winter beater and its a nice looking unit however I find the buttons are easily pressed in my pocket and battery life is shitty, I have found many times the car unlocked. I had a compustar on my old Prelude and it was much harder to press the buttons by accident.

If you are going for an aftermarket unit go for the Compustar.

u sure u locked ur car? i had my car broken into last month but it was my dumb fault for forgetting to lock my car (the one time ever) and it was parked in my driveway at night and i live in a nice neighborhood.

It just happened to be my stupid forgetfulness that one night and the chance some Ahole was in my neighborhood checking cars.

At least they didnt take anything from you... my car they got my wallet (no cash but i had to cancel every card, get a new wallet and DL) they got my sunglasses, my ipod nano, my $400 camera and all in all just ruined my day lol

now i always triple lock my car lol and hope no bastards try to sneak in cuz i made sure my gun is now closer to my bed

Damn Murph that sucks. I'm 10000000% sure (saying that reminds me of people on Maury about paternity tests ) that I locked the car at the track. I remember saying "alright I've never been here before and it's sorta sketchy so I'll be sure that I lock my car". I got out, locked it, walked away, walked back 5 minutes later to check, and it was still locked. From there, I walked to the other side of the track until I saw the guys in it a few hours later.
